American's Conor Lanz was named the 2006 Patriot League Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was one of 66 student-athletes on this year's academic honor roll announced Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich Tuesday. Within the 66 student-athletes, five posted a 4.00 or better grade-point average this past fall including Bucknell's Kevin McGoldrick and Adam Syty, Colgate's Scott DeRoo, Holy Cross' Stephen Schoenberger and Navy's Michael Niemi.
Lanz boasts a 3.75 cumulative grade-point average, while pursuing a Master's Degree in political science. The four-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member graduated a year early from American.
This year, Lanz was named First-Team All-Patriot League for the second-consecutive year after a seventh-place finish at the Patriot League Championship Meet. The Eagle also earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors with his 15th-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Regional and helped the American squad reach its third-straight NCAA Championship Meet.
It is the second-straight year and third in four years for an American student-athlete to be named as the Patriot League Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Lanz is joined by Steve Hallinan (2005) and Pat MacAdie (2003).
To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's seven fall championship sports.
A total of 532 student-athletes were named to the Patriot League's Fall Academic Honor Roll, which includes the sports of men and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men and women's soccer and volleyball.
