WEST POINT, N.Y. - Brian Bancroft has been named acting head coach for the Army track & field and cross country programs, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Boo Corrigan announced on Monday.
Bancroft, in his second season at Army following eight years at Texas A&M, will oversee the programs while a national search for a new head coach is conducted.
Troy Engle, who recently completed his sixth season supervising both programs, is departing the U.S. Military Academy to pursue an opportunity as the Director of Coach Development for the Singapore Sports Institute.
"We all want to thank Troy for his work as the head coach for our cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field programs," said Corrigan. "He has laid the groundwork for success in the coming years. We wish Troy, his wife Katrina, and the kids the very best in their new adventure."
Bancroft, who coached the throwers last season at Army, is a 1993 Texas A&M graduate. He spent eight seasons on the staff at his alma mater, most recently serving as Team Administrator, where he was responsible for administrative duties covering budget, scheduling, team travel, recruiting and event management.
As a student at Texas A&M, Bancroft was a four-year member of Squadron 7 in the Corps of Cadets in the ROTC program. Athletically, he competed in the decathlon for the Aggies' track and field program in 1992 and 1993.
"We will start on a national search to find the very best fit for Army West Point and our cadets," said Corrigan. "We owe them nothing less."
