18 Mids Earn Spots on Patriot League's Women's Track Academic Honor Roll

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Eighteen members of the Navy women's track & field program have earned their way onto the 2010 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, the conference office announced on Thursday. Led by recent graduate Kayla Sax (Richland, Wash.), a total of six women's track student-athletes posted perfect 4.0 grade-point averages on the spring. This spring, Sax became just the ninth student from the Naval Academy to be awarded a Gates Cambridge Scholarship. She graduated fifth overall and first in academic order of merit among the Class of 2010 after maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade-point average through her four-year tenure in Annapolis. Abby Gesecki (Nanticoke, Pa.), a recent graduate and Navy's 2009-10 indoor team captain, along with rising seniors Bethany Rahall (Yorktown, Va.) and Katie Rentz (San Diego, Calif.) and rising sophomores Caitlin Fine (Scottsdale, Ariz.), and Katie Whitcombe (Phoenix, Ariz.) also earned perfect 4.0's during the spring semester. To be eligible for the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average during the spring semester. Student-athletes representing all four classes are eligible for the award. A total of 195 student-athletes from the sport garnered the award this year.
