Lafayette's McGuire Qualifies for NCAA Track and Field National Championships in Javelin
June 5, 2009 From Lafayette Athletic Communications EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette junior Seamas McGuire has qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Championships in the javelin. McGuire, who finished sixth at the NCAA East Regional last weekend, will compete on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in Fayetteville, Ark. The defending Patriot League champion in the event, McGuire tossed 206'5" at the East Regional on May 29 to take sixth place. He was one of only four Patriot League competitors in the event to finish in the top eight. At the Patriot League Championships on May 1, McGuire won the javelin title with his season-best throw of 210'4". He then went on to earn All-East accolades at the IC4A Championships on May 18 by taking sixth place. McGuire, a Geology and Anthropology and Sociology double major, served as co-captain this season and earned a 3.32 grade-point average (GPA) this spring. He also received Patriot League Academic Honor Roll status as a sophomore.
