Seven Patriot Leaguers Named to Capital One Academic All-District Track and Field/Cross Country Teams

Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-District Teams | Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-District Teams

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Seven Patriot League student-athletes earned Capital One Academic All-District honors in track and field/cross country on Thursday for their accomplishments in both athletics and academics.

Five Patriot League men were named to the lists as Army senior Kendall Ward and Holy Cross senior Sam McGrath were selected in District 1 while Navy senior Brett Bogaard and junior Thomas Buffone and Lehigh senior Ryan Knouse were honored in District 2. Boston University graduate student Allison Barwise and Holy Cross junior Sarah Dahlstrom were each named to the women's team in District 1.

The teams were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. District 1 includes schools from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont, while District 2 features schools in the District of Columbia, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Each of the seven student-athletes earned academic honors from the Patriot League during the 2013-14 season. Ward was the Scholar-Athlete of the Year in men's cross country, while Barwise received the same honor in Women's Outdoor Track and Field. Bogaard and Dahlstrom made the Academic All-Patriot League Team in both indoor and outdoor track and field, while Ward was an Academic All-League pick in cross country and outdoor track and field. Buffone and Knouse made the Academic All-Patriot League squad in outdoor track and field, while McGrath was selected in the indoor season.

Each of the honorees advances to the Capital One Academic All?]America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in June.

To be eligible for Academic All?]District consideration, a student?]athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
