2012 NCAA East Regionals Host Site
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — The Navy Midshipmen will lead the Patriot League with eight student-athletes competing at the NCAA East Regionals at University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
Army, Bucknell, Colgate, Lafayette and Lehigh also will be represented at the regional meet that will begin on Thursday, May 24, and continue through Saturday.
Navy sophomore Zachary Duncavage has the League’s best prelim ranking at No. 11 in the men’s discus with a distance of 181-6. Navy senior Kenneth Bunnell, senior Cody Rome, junior Miles Snelgrove and freshman Mark Vetere will join Duncavage in Jacksonville.
Bunnell is seeded 23rd in the steeplechase (8:58.09), an event he won at the Patriot League Championship on May 5. The runner-up in the steeplechase at the championship meet, Lehigh senior Evans Kosgei, also will compete in the event at regionals. He is the 14th seed after running the event in 8:52.41 earlier this season.
Rome is 23rd in the 5,000 with a time of 14:01.36. He’ll go against the Patriot League 5,000 champion, Colgate junior Chris Johnson, who is ranked 38th with a season-best time of 14:05.33.
Vetere was the League champion in the pole vault and his height of 16-8 ranks him 45th in the event. Snelgrove is seeded 26th in the javelin (216-9).
Also qualifying in the field from the Patriot League are Army junior Nicholas Snoad and Bucknell junior Leonard Joseph in the hammer. Snoad, who was the runner-up in the event at the Patriot League Championship, and he’s seeded 23rd with a distance of 199-0. Joseph, the individual champion, is seeded 15th (206-3).
Lafayette senior Jerome Rudolph rounds out the men’s qualifiers with a time of 10.39 seconds in the 100 dash, ranking him 36th in the event.
Navy led the way on the women’s side, too, with three qualifiers. Senior Jess Palacio, the Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Meet at the last three outdoor meets, qualified in the 1,500 and she is seeded 28th with a time of 4:20.87. A pair of sophomores qualified as Lauren Allam is 24th in the discus (164-9) and Alix Membreno is 21st in the javelin (150-3).
Army will send a pair of student-athletes as sophomore Jessica Waggoner is seeded 21st in the discus (166-5) and freshman Lisa Junta is seeded 40th in the 10,000 (35:17.90).
Also qualifying in the 10,000 is Lehigh senior Katherine Pierce, ranking 33rd (35:05.94).
Colgate senior Chelsea Burns also will compete in a distance event, earning a 29th seed in the 5,000 (16:30.42).
Bucknell senior Kat Folger has the best seed on the women’s side with a 12th seed in the javelin (156-6).
Lafayette sophomore Rachel Pena is ranked 38th in the hammer (183-0).
