WEST POINT, N.Y. - In one final effort to obtain postseason-qualifying marks, the throwers of Army track and field hosted a USATF Certified meet on Monday at West Point's Shea Stadium. Despite not adding any new names to the qualifying lists, the competition was not without highlights as Jessica Waggoner set the Academy record in the discus.

Waggoner, who cracked Army's top-10 list in the very first meet of the season, continued to rise up the ledger throughout the year until reaching the pinnacle on Monday. The sophomore recorded a mark over two meters beyond the previous Army record with a toss of 50.74m. Ashley Albritton previously stood at No. 1 on the Black Knights' list, recording a throw of 48.40m in 2002.

The meet, entitled "Army Strong Throwers," also attracted international talent as Costa Rica's Roberto Sawyers set the national record in the hammer throw (72.74m). U.S. thrower Rudy Winkler recorded the best hammer throw by a high school competitor this season (76.54m with a six kilogram apparatus) as well.

Waggoner, who previously qualified for the ECACs on March 16, lists third among all ECAC qualifiers and 20th on the NCAA East Region ledger. With her regional ranking, the sophomore qualified for the NCAA First Round for the first time in her career.
