The Bison women's outdoor track and field team placed a league-high 16 individuals on the 2006 All-Patriot League squad, the league office announced Tuesday morning. Seven of Bucknell's women earned all-league first team honors, while the remaining nine picked up second team recognition.
All-league status reflects performances at the 2006 championship meet, held May 5-6. All individual event winners receive first team honors, while all second place finishers earn a place on the second team.
Leading the way on the All-Patriot League first team for the Bison was the Outstanding Female Track Athlete of the Meet, junior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City). Trentacoste won the 400-meter dash and earned second team honors as part of the second-place 4x400-relay team. She also placed second in the 100-hurdles and third in the 400-hurdles.
The 4x800 relay team, comprised of senior Kerryann Branker (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees), juniors Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) and Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and sophomore Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock), also pulled in first-team honors.
Bricker struck gold in the 3,000 steeplechase, while Sawko also took the title in the 800.
On the field, junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) won both the discus and the hammer throws, for first-team honors, while classmate Melanie Buczko took home the gold in the pole vault.
Earning Second Team All-Patriot League honors was the 4x400 relay team of Trentacoste, Sawko, junior Sarah VandenBroek (Hyde Park, N.Y./Roosevelt) and freshmen Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagra Wheatfield).
Junior Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills) took the silver in the 10,000, and classmate Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) earned the second-team nod in the heptathlon.
Rounding out the second team was sophomore Nicole Ayala (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) in the triple jump, sophomore Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) in the javelin and junior Kathleen Hart (Delmar, N.Y.) in the discus.
The Orange and Blue collected its third consecutive Patriot League Outdoor title at the event, collecting 187.50 total points, topping Navy in second with 132.50 and Lafayette in third with 128.
