Navy's Moore Named Patriot League Women's Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Center Valley, Pa. - Navy senior Vicki Moore was voted the Patriot League Women's Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, it was announced on Thursday by Patriot League Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich. Moore is the second-consecutive and second-overall Navy outdoor track and field student-athlete in Patriot League history to win the prestigious award. Moore was also the recipient of the 2008 Patriot League Women's Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.

Moore, an information technology major with a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average, is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. The senior from Burke, Va. has posted a 4.0 GPA and has been honored on the Superintendent's List at Navy during each of her seven semesters in Annapolis. Moore also ranks 1st in her class of 1,064 and 1st in her class students in overall order of merit, which is a combination of Military Order of Merit and Academic Order of Merit. Moore was also named to the USA Today All-USA College Academic Second-Team for creating a user-friendly database for NATO M&I request summaries.

At the 2008 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Moore finished ninth in the 800m race and 13th in the 1,500m. She was also a member of Navy's fourth-place finishing relay team in the 4x800m race. During the course of the season, Moore posted the fourth-fastest 800m time in the Patriot League (2:14.74) as well as the 10th-fastest 1,500m time (4:43.82). Following her graduation from the Naval Academy in May, Moore will enter the Navy Surface Warfare community.

To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
