Patriot League Announces 2007 Women's Outdoor Track and Field All-League Teams

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (May 8, 2007) -- Bucknell University placed 19 student-athletes on the 2007 Patriot League All-League Teams following the conclusion of this year's Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

The First-Team All-Patriot League squad is comprised of the first-place finishers in each event (individual and relay), while the Second-Team All-Patriot League squad is comprised of the second-place finishers in each event.

Navy placed a dozen performers on the All-Patriot League squads, followed by Army (7), Lehigh (4), Lafayette (3) and Colgate (2).

Ebony Thomas and Katelin Grant, who took the first-place honors in four and three events, respectively, led Army. Thomas was named the Female Rookie of the Meet following her victories in the 200 and 400 meters, as well as running on the victorious 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. Meanwhile, Grant won her third Patriot League 400-meter hurdles title in a row, as well as running on the two winning relay squads. Janelle Jones won the triple jump competition, and Meghan Venable Thomas (4x100, 4x400 relays), Lesa Boyd (4x400m relay) and Heather Owney (4x100m relay) also were named to the First-Team All-Patriot League squad.

Winners of the past four Patriot League women's outdoor track and field team titles, Bucknell was represented by seven student-athletes on the First-Team. Christina Sawko captured first-place honors in the 800 and 1500 meters, as well as running on the winning 4x800-meter relay. Sawko also won the Patriot League 800-meter title in 2005 and 2006. Other individual champions from Bucknell include Marjorie Grap (discus throw), Amy Mantush (high jump) and Christy Totten (steeplechase). It was Grap's third consecutive Patriot League discus crown, to go along with her 2006 hammer throw and 2005 shot put titles.

Lafayette captured three field event individual titles. Kristen Kalinowski won the Leopards' first heptathlon title in Patriot League Championship action, while shot putter Sue Izevbigie and hammer thrower Ashley Harbin won their initial Patriot League outdoor titles.

Navy's women's squad garnered seven individual titles, led by three individual titles from Kirsten Andrews (110m hurdles, pole vault, long jump). For her performance, Andrews was tabbed the patriot League Field Athlete of the Meet. Teammate Justine Whipple won both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter races to receive the Patriot League Track Athlete of the Meet. Whipple successfully defended her 10,000 title. Danielle Still won the Patriot League javelin competition for the third consecutive campaign, and increased her number of individual Patriot League outdoor titles to five. Lon Forsythe won the 100-meter title for the second time in three years, and her third individual Patriot League outdoor championship event.

Most of the Patriot League institutions will compete at the three-day ECAC Championship, which begins Fri., May 11 in Princeton, N.J.
