LEWISBURG, Pa. - Less than 48 hours after leading Bucknell men's track and field to a third consecutive Patriot League Championship, Robert Arent (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) was named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. Arent collected his third 400-meter hurdles title and added a 110-meter hurdle win to his resume at the league meet in Worcester, Mass., last weekend.
Arent, who also received the Christy Mathewson Award as the outstanding senior athlete at last week's Bucknell Athletics Senior Award Recognition, scored 32 of the Bison's 167 points at the championship meet. He scored in all four of his events, including the 400 hurdles and 110 hurdles, which he won. His gold in the longer race was his third straight and came in a time of 53.08 seconds. The victory helped push Bucknell into the lead in the team standings. The Bison ultimately held on and captured their third consecutive outdoor trophy.
In the 110 hurdles, Arent won in 14.39 seconds. It was his first career title in the event, although he also placed second last year as a junior and third as a sophomore.
Arent's championship performance also included a second-place finish in the 400 meters. His time of 48.17 seconds was his best of the season and gave him a third straight league meet in which he finished among the top two in the long sprint.
To cap off the day, the native of New Providence, N.J., anchored the 4x400 relay to the fourth-fastest time in program history. With Kevin Tapper, Justin Hicks and Jacob Eaton-Hall starting the relay off, Arent and his teammates finished in 3:14.58.
At the meet's conclusion, Arent was named First Team All-Patriot League in both hurdle races and Second Team All-Patriot League in the 400 meters.
A two-time Patriot League Runner of the Meet at the outdoor championships, Arent is the Bucknell record holder in 110 hurdles (14.31) and 400 hurdles (51.59). He also has six career outdoor conference titles, tying him for first in program history with Mike Geraghty, Thomas McLean and Noel Powell
Monday's Bison Athlete of the Week award is the third of Arent's career. He was also honored once as a sophomore after guiding Bucknell to its first Patriot League outdoor championship since 1191 and again as a junior during the indoor season.
Arent and several of his teammates will be back in action this weekend at the IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J. The meet is set for May 11-13.
