WEST POINT, N.Y. -
Following a standout performance at the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Tom Wagner was tabbed the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week. The AAA recognition is the second of the year for the Black Knights' senior jumper.
Wagner, who finished second in the long jump during the first day of competition, swept the high jump and long jump titles on Saturday for the second time in his career. The Clinton, N.Y., native also achieved the feat at the 2011 indoor meet. Wagner, who battled injuries throughout much of the season, won the high jump by eclipsing the bar at 2.09 meters, earning his second outdoor conference HJ title and first since 2009. In the triple jump, the senior won with a leap of 15.16m, his second consecutive outdoor TJ belt.
With a pair of first-place finishes and a runner-up mark, Wagner totaled 28 points. The 28 points were more than Colgate, American and Holy Cross combined for as teams.
Following the competition, Wagner was tabbed the Field Athlete of the Meet for the second time in his career and first time at the outdoor event. He is the first Black Knight since 2006 and fourth overall to garner the outdoor recognition.
Wagner, who has recorded qualifying marks in the triple jump and high jump, will be traveling along with fellow qualifiers to the IC4A and ECAC Championships this weekend as the Black Knights' postseason continues in Princeton, N.J.
