2012 Outdoor Women's Javelin Champion: Bucknell's Kat Folger

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Through six scored events, the Bucknell women and the Navy men hold slim leads after the first day of the 2012 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championship Friday at Hart Track on the campus of the College of the Holy Cross.
The Bucknell women, who look to defend their 2011 outdoor title, have 44 points with a pair of individual titles and a relay win during the first day's action. Lehigh trails in second with 41 points and Lafayette is third with 35 points. Navy has 28 points and Army has 24, while Holy Cross (10) and Colgate (4) round out the scores.
On the men's side, Navy holds a seven-point lead over rival Army for first place with 56 points. Bucknell, the defending champion, is third with 32 points and Lehigh has 18. Colgate (10), Lafayette (8), American (6) and Holy Cross (6) fill out the team standings.

Senior Kat Folger and sophomore Emily Ando led Bucknell with individual titles on the women's side Friday. Bucknell also won the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 8:44.94.
Folger won the javelin (145-7) and Ando won the pole vault (12-1½). Navy sophomore Alix Membreno finished second in the javelin (139-9) and Holy Cross freshman Mackenzie Arndt was the runner-up in the pole vault (12-1½).
Army picked up an individual title in the 10,000 with freshman Lisa Junta posting a time of 36:40.68 to win gold. Senior Katherine Pierce placed second (36:43.92) to earn points and help put Lehigh in second place overall.
Lehigh earned more second-place points in the hammer throw with junior E'Lana Lemon posting a runner-up distance of 180-2. Lafayette sophomore Rachel Pena won the individual title in the hammer with a toss of 180-8.
Pena was one of two Leopards to win titles Friday as senior Joelle Neilson beat out last year's long jump champion with a distance of 19-4. Lehigh senior Alexandra Doersam, the defending champion in the event, finished second (18-5¾).
Pena will look to defend her title in the triple jump Saturday when the meet concludes.
On the men's side, Navy won a pair of individual titles with freshman Mark Vetere winning the pole vault (16-2¾) and junior Miles Snelgrove taking the top spot in the javelin (215-9).
Navy went 1-2 in each event as sophomore Ryan Kochert earned Patriot League silver in the pole vault (15-3) and freshman Aaron Zack was second in the javelin (200-0).
Army also pulled off a 1-2 finish in the long jump as senior Michael Hutchins the event (23-4) and Thomas Wagner finished second (22-8½). The Black Knights garnered more points in the 3,200 relay, winning with a time of 7:27.65. Navy was second in the close race with a time of 7:27.87.
In the hammer throw, Bucknell junior Leonard Joseph, who was extremely successful in the event all during the regular season, placed first with a throw of 206-3. Army junior Nicholas Snoad placed second (194-1).
In the 10,000, the 2011 Patriot League Cross Country champion Chris Johnson, a junior from Colgate, won the individual title with a time of 30:04.92. He edged out last year's 10,000 champion, Lehigh senior Evans Kosgei, who finished second with a time of 30:16.81.
The men's and women's trials for the 100 and 200 dashes, as well as the women's 100 and men's 110 hurdles were run on Friday.
Lafayette senior Jerome Rudolph posted the top qualifying time in the 100 (10.59), while his teammate Nick DeRosa, also a senior, had the top time in the 200 (21.72). Rudolph was right behind him in the 200 with a time of 21.81 seconds.
Holy Cross sophomore Stephanie Okpoebo, who won the 100 and 200 dashes at both the 2011 Outdoor Championship and 2012 Indoor Championship meets, has the top qualifying times in both events heading into Saturday. She finished the 100 in 12.09 seconds and the 200 in 24.79 seconds.
Navy junior Mitch Simmonds posted the top qualifying time in the men's 110 hurdles (14.40), while Bucknell senior Taylor Funk had the top time in the women's 100 hurdles (14.41).
The 2012 Patriot League Indoor multi champions on both the men's and women's side lead their respective multi events heading into Saturday. In the men's decathlon, Bucknell senior Andrew Powell, who won the heptathlon at the 2012 indoor meet, leads the way with 3,482 points.
Lehigh sophomore Brooke Astor, who won the pentathlon at the indoor meet in February, leads the heptathlon with 2,861 points.
