Brendan Fennell of American and Navy's Loni Forsythe earned this week's Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week awards, while Army's Kevin Filer and Kirsten Andrews of Navy were selected as the Patriot League Field Athletes of the Week. Meanwhile, American's Greta Wicklund and Matthew Hanley of Navy are the recipients of the Patriot League Rookie of the Week.

M-F Athletic Male Track Performer of the Week
Brendan Fennell, American, Sr., Pearl River, N.Y.

Fennell posted a NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 3:45.80 to win the 1,500 meters at the Navy Three-Way Meet in Annapolis. His time is the third-fastest time in Eagles' history, and is two seconds faster than the NCAA qualifying standard of 3:47.80. It is his second Patriot League weekly award, as he won the award last spring.

M-F Athletic Female Track Performer of the Week
Loni Forsythe, Navy, Sr., Chattanooga, Tenn.

Forsythe won the 100 meters (11.88) and 200 meters (24.70) in ECAC qualifying times at a multi-team event at the U.S. Naval Academy. Both of her times rank second in school history. She also ran on the 4x100m relay, which recorded an ECAC-qualifying time of 47.91.

M-F Athletic Male Field Performer of the Week
Kevin Filer, army, Sr., Santa Rosa, Calif.

Filer won the shot put and hammer throw competition at the Dick Shea Open at West Point. He posted a winning mark of 15.98m in the shot put, and 53.90m in the hammer throw.

M-F Athletic Female Field Performer of the Week
Kirsten Andrews, Navy, Sr., New Holland, Pa.

Andrews won four events at the Navy Five-Way Meet in Annapolis, including three ECAC qualifying standards. She won the pole vault (3.65m), 100m hurdles (14.38), the long jump (5.50m) and ran the first leg of the 4x100m relay (47.91). All but the long jump event were ECAC qualifying marks. This is her second career Patriot League Weekly Award.

M-F Athletic Male Rookie of the Week
Matthew Hanley, Navy, Fr., Ridgewood, N.J.

Hanley won the 110-meter hurdles (14.7) and finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (58.2) against American and Maryland in a multi-team event in Annapolis.

M-F Athletic Female Rookie of the Week
Greta Wicklund, American, Fr., Kingston, Mass.

Wicklund placed fifth in the 1,500 meters at the Navy Five-Way Meet with a time of 4:48.90, which is the seventh-fastest time in school history.

2007 Patriot League Championships
The 2007 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships are slated for May 4-5 at Lehigh University. The last time the event was held at Lehigh was 2002. Army is the 15-time defending men's team champion, while Bucknell will look to capture its fourth consecutive women's team title in Bethlehem, Pa. later this spring. Longevity within Coaching Ranks
Jim Kavanaugh (Holy Cross men/women), Art McKinnon (Colgate men) and Julio Piazza (Lafayette men/women) have coached during each of the 17 years existence of the Patriot League. Kavanaugh is now in his 29th campaign with the Crusaders, while McKinnon is directing the Raiders in his 18th season, and Piazza is in his 20th year at the helm of the Leopards. Overall, eight of the 11 head track coaches have been at their respective Patriot League institution for at least a decade, and a half dozen of those 11 individuals have been a collegiate head coach for at least 20 years.

NCAA Regional Qualifiers
Thus far, five Patriot League student-athletes have posted automatic NCAA Regional qualifying marks. A trio of American runners - Dustin Emrani (800m - 1:49.70), Brendan Fennell (1,500m - 3:45.80) and Carlos Jamieson (1,500m - 3:46.10) - recorded those NCAA qualifying marks. Meanwhile, a pair of throwers - Navy's Clinton Lawson and Marjorie Grap of Bucknell - also have posted NCAA Regional qualifying marks during the early outdoor portion of the season. Lawson has a mark of 61.64 meters (202-3) in the javelin throw, while Grap qualified for the NCAA Regional in the hammer throw (54.64m/179-3). Those student-athletes who qualify for the NCAA Regional will compete in Gainesville, Fla. on May 25-26.

Captured the discus competition at the Navy 5-Way Meet in outdoor collegiate debut.

Team Notebooks
American registered three NCAA Regional qualifying marks at Navy. Dustin Emrani led throughout to win the 800 meters, while Brendan Fennell and Carlos Jamieson went one-two in the 1,500m. Both Fennell and Jamieson recorded personal bests in the 1,500m. Freshman Mercedes Ball move onto the school's top-10 list in the 800m.

Army captured seven events at the Dick Shea Open, led by Kevin Filer's wins in the shot put and hammer throw. Other winning performances came from John Mickowski (800m), Jon Anderson (10,000m), Mario Bullock (400mH) and Ryan Clay (steeplechase).

Bucknell is back this weekend after an off week. The Bison will be represented at the George Mason Invitational and the Susquehanna Invitational. In two weeks, Bucknell will compete at the Auburn Track Classic as well as the Princeton Invitational (April 6-7).

Colgate's Meaghan McAnaney turned in a personal-best 38:46.42 in the 10,000 meters, which ranks sixth on the Colgate all-time list. A pair of sophomores - Rita Santibanez (javelin, discus) and Curry Knox (100m)- also posted runner-up performances at Navy, where the Raiders split four dual meets.

Holy Cross opened the outdoor campaign at the Northeastern Spring Open. The Crusaders posted several podium finishes, led by Lesley Bautista (2nd, women's pole vault), Nicholas Carr (3rd, men's hammer), Dannielle Meder (3rd, 100mH) and Kyle Rougeot (3rd, 5,000m).

Lafayette returns to action this Saturday at the East Stroudsburg (Pa.) Five-Way Meet. This is the first of three consecutive events for the Leopards within the state of Pennsylvania.

Lehigh's Matt Kostyal and Nicholas Ray won the hammer throw and the shot put events, respectively at the Lehigh Valley Championship in Allentown to open the outdoor season. The Mountain Hawk men also collected five victories on the track. Meanwhile, Kim Scotto (800m) and Nicole Page (steeplechase) posted winning performances for the Lehigh women.

Navy men won 14 of 19 events to defeat American and Maryland in triangular meet at Annapolis. The Mids won all four throwing events, and three of the four jumping events. The Navy women won 16 events in its five-way meet, en route to recording six ECAC qualifying marks, including two from Kirsten Andrews and Loni Forsythe.
