Lewisburg, Pa. - Navy men and Bucknell women moved into first place after two days of competition at the 2008 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships being held at Bucknell University's Gerhard Fieldhouse. Through six events the Navy men have accumulated 63.50 points, while the Bucknell women have 60 points through seven events. Bucknell is in second in the men's race with 47 points and Army is in third with 45 points. Rounding out the men's competition are, in order, American (11 points), Colgate (7.5), Lehigh (7), Lafayette (4) and Holy Cross (1). Navy's first-place position in the men's race was bolstered by four gold-medal finishes by the Mids. Ronald Belany won the heptathlon with a meet-record 5,311 points and the long jump with a mark of 7.25m, while Christopher Bordino was victorious in the weight throw (17.49m). The Mids also took first in the 4x800-meter relay with Paul Harris, Craig Meekins, Benjamin Kozy and Lucas Burke each running a leg. Other gold medal winners on Saturday were Bucknell's Nicholas Hruch in the high jump with a mark of 2.04m and American's Carlos Jamieson in 5,000-meter race with a time of 14:29.82. On the women's side Lafayette is in second place with 59 points and Navy comes in at third with 42 points. Rounding out the women's race after Saturday were, in order, Holy Cross (19 points), Lehigh (18), Army (9), Colgate (6) and American (4). Bucknell's 4x800-meter team came in first in the women's race with athletes Jenny Dalzell, Victoria Gilbert, Janda, Bucknell and Offeibia Hanson-Hall earning gold. This is the third-straight year the Bison have taken the 4x800 event. The other first-place finish for the Bison was by Nicole Ayala, who won the long jump with a leap of 5.57 meters. The Leopards took home three first-place finishes so far in 2008 with Lafayette's Kristen Kalinowski being a double winner. Kalinowski won the women's pentathlon with 3,539 points and the high jump with a 1.65 mark. Ashley Harbin added another gold medal after winning the 20-lb. weight throw with a heave of 18.96 meters. Navy had two of its athletes come in first on Saturday, including Erica Ziel in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:31.80 and Jackie Charnigo, who won the pole vault (3.90m). In preliminary and semifinal action two championship records on the women's side were either broken or tied on Saturday. Lafayette's Janica Austin now owns the 60-meter hurdles record after first breaking it in the preliminaries (8.69) and then again in the semifinals (8.68). The record Austin broke was from last year's championship. Army's Ebony Thomas tied the meet record set last year in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 7.65.
