LEWISBURG, Pa. — After Day One of the 2012 Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships, Lehigh’s Brooke Astor won the pentathlon and Bucknell’s Andrew Powell holds the lead in the heptathlon.

Astor won the women’s pentathlon collecting 3,450 points during the first day of the championships at Gerhard Fieldhouse at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.

Astor, who placed ahead of Lafayette’s Stephanie Hazlett (3,331) and Army’s Christina Johnson (3,323), finished first in the 60-meter hurdles (8.99 seconds), second in the 800 (2:27.76), third in the long jump (17-0½), fifth in the high jump (5-1¼) and fifth in the shot put (32-2),

Powell finished first in a pair of events — long jump (22-3½) and high jump (6-8¾) — to record 2,921 points. Powell, who is the defending indoor League champion, also was second in the 60 dash (7.34) and sixth in the shot put (35-10¾).

Lehigh’s Ryan Paquin is in second place with 2,802 points.

The 2012 Patriot League Championships will continue Saturday with the completion of the heptathlon at 9:30 a.m., and the field events will start at 11 a.m. The track events will open at 1 p.m. For a complete schedule, click here.
