LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell track and field's Sasha Hornock (Dover, Pa./Dover) earned her second consecutive Patriot League/M-F Athletic Rookie of the Week honor on Tuesday. The freshman is coming off a pair of top-two finishes at last weekend's Bison Open & Multi, including a first-place finish in the long jump.
Hornock's mark in the long jump of 17 feet, 8 1/4 inches tied a career-best in addition to being tops at the Bison's home meet. She recorded an identical jump one week earlier at the Bucknell Heptagonal, giving her a third-place finish.
Hornock continued her success on the track as she finished second overall in the 60-meter dash. After running 8.01 seconds in the prelims, she improved her time to 7.93 in the finals. That time gave her sole possession of the fourth-fastest mark in Bucknell program history.
The top rookie accolade is the second in as many weeks for Hornock. She was also recognized last week after scoring in all three events in which she entered at the Bucknell Heptagonal - 60-meter dash, 200 meters and long jump.
Bucknell women's track and field has now claimed a combined six awards this season in the Track, Field and Rookie of the Week categories, the most of any Patriot League team. No other school has totaled more than two.
The Bison return to the track on Saturday, Feb. 13 to host the Bucknell Winter Classic. Field events at Gerhard Fieldhouse will begin at 10 a.m., while running events will get underway at 11 a.m.
