CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Beginning this weekend, Patriot League schools will begin marking the 2013 edition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), an annual celebration of the many feats and accomplishments of girls and women in sports.

The official NGWSD date is Wednesday, February 6, but schools around the Patriot League will begin the celebrations as early as this weekend. Both American and Lafayette are hosting their NGWSD events Saturday in conjunction with home women’s basketball games against Army and Lehigh, respectively. Both games are slated for 2 p.m.

On February 6, thousands of sports educators, coaches, athletic directors, recreation directors, association members, sponsors, students and parents across the country will show their support of the 27th annual NGWSD and of this year's theme, "Girls in Sports, An Investment in the Future."

Each school plans a variety of events and giveaways in conjunction with their institutional celebrations.
