LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's track and field claimed a pair of Patriot League accolades on Tuesday, as Marlon Woods (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) was named the league's Track Athlete of the Week, while Justin Hicks (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School) received Rookie of the Week.
Woods claimed second overall but was the first collegiate finisher in the 60-meter dash at the Gulden Relays last Saturday, crossing the line in 6.97 seconds. It was his second top-two finish in as many races this season. Woods, who is also a running back/wide receiver with the Bison football team, also led his 4x200 relay to the meet title. The Ohio native got things going as the leadoff leg, helping the unit to a time of 1:32.65.
Despite his strong showing last weekend, his 60-meter time was not the best of his career. The junior broke the school record in the event at the Bison Opener with a time of 6.85 seconds, making him the first Bison to run a sub-7.0 in the 60.
Hicks took third in the 60 with a time of 6.98, trailing only Woods and an unattached runner. It was the second consecutive meet in which the freshman recorded a top-four finish in the event. Like Woods, Hicks was also a member of the winning 4x200 and anchored the relay.
Also like Woods, Hicks' best 60-meter time came earlier this season at the Bison Opener where he finished fourth in 6.91 seconds. That mark ranks third all-time at Bucknell behind Woods and Isaih Bell (Stone Mountain, Ga./Clarkston). All three Bison broke the previous school record in the same race. Hicks also claimed the fourth fastest 300 time in program history after running 35.92 at the Bison Opener.
Hicks has received each of the two Patriot League/M-F Athletic Rookie of the Week honors awarded this year, while the Track Athlete of the Week is the first of Woods' career.
Woods, Hicks and the rest of the Bison will be back in action on Friday when they travel to the Akron Quad in Akron, Ohio. Competition against the Zips, Cincinnati and South Florida is set to begin at 7 p.m.
