Record Setting Day for Men's Track at IC4A Championship Trials
March 8, 2003
BOSTON, MASS. (www.lafayette.edu) - On the strength of two school records in the men's 4x400 M and 4x800 M relays, and qualifying times by Machel Morrison and Herb Kennedy in the 55 M dash, the Lafayette men's indoor track team had a banner day at the IC4A Championship Trials on Saturday in Boston, Mass. Headlining the Leopards' successful day was the 4x800 M relay team of juniors Reginald Clay and Tom Kennedy, and sophomores Colin McDonough and Matt Taverna who qualified for tomorrow's nine-team final in a time of 7:38.78. That time shattered the previous school record of 7:41.56 set in 1998. The men's 4x400 M relay followed suit, breaking the school record by more than three seconds in a time of 3:13.86 to place in 13th for the championship. The team of seniors John Apostoles, Alvin Lyte, John Farkas and Herb Kennedy broke the previous school-mark of 3:17.40 set in 1977. Individually, junior Machel Morrison and senior Herb Kennedy both advanced to tomorrow's 55 M dash semi-final, with the chance to move on to tomorrow afternoon's final. Also, junior Christopher Carey waits his turn to compete in tomorrow's 55 M high hurdle semi-finals with the possibility of moving onto the finals as well. In the women's ECAC Championships the young 4x400 M relay team of juniors Natalie Bosserman and Elizabeth Hallowell, and freshman Kathleen Evangelista and Deborah Fink crossed the tape in a season-best 3:57.58, but did not advance into tomorrow's semifinals.
Tomorrow's IC4A 55 M high hurdle and dash finals go off at 11:35 a.m. and 11:40 a.m. respectively. The men's 4x800 M finals are scheduled for 1:15 p.m.
