Ames, Iowa - The Navy men's track and field team (8-2) recoded five IC4A-qualifying efforts at the Iowa State Classic this weekend. This was Navy's final tune-up before the Patriot League Championships next weekend. This was a non-team scored event.
Junior Paul Neidhardt cleared 15'9" in the non-seeded pole vault event to place eighth. Neidhardt's performance was Navy's first IC4A-qualifying height in the pole vault this season. The Mids have now qualified in 14 different events for the IC4As.
Junior Matthew Evers ran a 1:53.05 to place 20th in the seeded 800-meter run and senior captain David Ash ran a 1:53.97 to place 26th in the seeded event. George Stevenson placed sixth in the non-seeded 800-meter run with a 1:54.47. All three 800m runners clocked in under the IC4A standard.
Sophomore Kolton Kempel turned in a season-best time of 49.67 to place 13th in the non-seeded 400-meter dash and teammate Alexander Jackson placed 15th (49.89)
Jackson, Kempel, Evers and Ash teamed up to run a Navy season-best and IC4A-qualifying time of 3:16.21 to place 19th in the event.
Senior Patrick Norwood led the Navy weight throw contingent, launching a season best of 54'10-3/4" to place 14th in the non-seeded flight. Junior Christopher Ricks placed 18th with a throw of 53'11-3/4" (16.45m) and Nicholas Porter placed 21st with a distance of 53'1-1/2".
Junior Joshua Houston cleared 6'7" in the high jump to tie for fifth in the non-seeded flight.
Navy will next host the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships from February 18-20 at the Wesley A. Brown Field House.
