Center Valley, Pa. - Lafayette's Sarah Sykes, the 2009 Patriot League Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, is one of 35 women's tennis student-athletes named to this year's Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Sykes, a senior biochemistry major from West Grove, Pa., earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in the spring semester and has received chemistry honors. Sykes has earned Patriot League Academic Honor Roll plaudits in each of her four seasons. Her teammate, Kristie Cavanaugh, is the only other women's tennis player to achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA for the spring semester. Cavanaugh, a New Providence, N.J. native, is a Psychology and English double major.
Holy Cross led all schools by placing eight student-athletes on the Honor Roll. Bucknell tallied seven student-athletes who made the list, and Army added six more.
To be eligible for the spring Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's winter or spring fall championship sports. The criteria for awarding varsity letters are different at each institution.
