CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Fifty-seven women's tennis student-athletes have been named to this year's Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, including Scholar-Athlete of the Year Maria Cioffi of Bucknell.
Cioffi, a sophomore mathematics major, achieved a 3.91 grade point average during the spring semester. She's joined on the honor roll by seven student-athletes who posted a 4.0 GPA or better in the spring semester.
Lehigh and Loyola each had a pair with a perfect 4.0 GPA. The Mountain Hawks Jillian Sloand, an industrial engineering major, achieved the feat for the third straight year and was joined by freshman teammate Jamie Campisi, a journalism major. Loyola University Maryland senior elementary education major Tiffany Ash achieved the mark along with digital media & journalism major Haleigh Morgus, a Greyhound sophomore. Army freshman Taylor Brazell posted a 4.09 and Lafayette sophomore Ally Simels registered a 4.00 in Neuroscience. Navy sophomore international relations major Mikaela Carlson delivered a 4.0 spring semester for the second straight time. Six of the seven players on the Academic All-Patriot League team announced in early May are on the spring honor roll.
Sloand was one of four seniors to make the Women's Tennis Academic Honor Roll for the fourth straight year. Also accomplishing this were Bucknell's Elizabeth Morgan and a pair of Lafayette student-athletes in Lucy Bass and Liza Blank. Holy Cross led all schools with nine honor roll selections, followed by Bucknell, Lafayette and Loyola with eight apiece. Lehigh placed seven and Navy had six.
To be eligible for the spring Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and participate in one of the Patriot League's winter or spring fall championship sports.
