Patriot League Women's Tennis Championship Preview

LEWISBURG, Pa - No. 1 Boston University and No. 2 Army will play for the second consecutive Sunday, only this time with the Patriot League Women's Tennis Championship on the line, after each posted semifinal round wins at the Bucknell University's Varsity Courts.

In the Saturday morning tilt, the Terriers knocked off No. 4 Bucknell 4-0 to reach the title match in their first season as a member of the Patriot League. Johanna Hyoty earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Elena Vidrascu at No. 1 singles and then teamed with Leonie-Charlotte Athanaisiadis for an 8-2 victory over Vidrascu and Maria Cioffi at No. 1 doubles.

Athanaisiadis also figured in a pair of victories for Boston University as she followed up the doubles win with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over the Bison' Lydia Colvin at No. 3 singles. Sami Lieb had the match-clinching point for the Terriers with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Michele Urbinati at No. 4 singles.

No. 1 Boston University advances to the Championship match at noon against No. 2 Army. The Black Knights defeated rival Navy 4-0 in the afternoon pairing.

Army's Carolyn Pittman, the Patriot League Player of the Month for February, teamed with Jamila Paul for an 8-6 win over Katie Porter and Erin Snook to swing the doubles point in favor of the Black Knights. Pittman also was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Darien Sears at No. 2 singles.

Gabriella Spindler defeated Sam Droop 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles and Nancy Porter earned the final point of the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Katie Porter at No. 6 singles.

Army will be going for its 10th consecutive Patriot League tournament title when the 2014 Championship match is played at noon on Sunday. The Terriers snapped the Black Knight's 65-match Patriot League winning streak that dated to the 2002 season with a 7-0 victory on April 13.
