HAMILTON, N.Y. - The American University women's tennis team lost to Colgate in a Patriot League battle Sunday morning, 4-3.
With the loss, the Eagles drop to 7-8 overall and are an even 2-2 in Patriot League action. They will host non-league George Mason on Tuesday and then head to Bucknell on Sunday.
AU's No. 1 singles player Katarina Kollarova (Vinicne, Slovakia/Valparaiso) beat Marissa Alikpala, 6-3, 6-3. Also winning at singles for the Eagles was Kristina Georgieva (Sofia, Bulgaria/Stefan Karadja), who took down Lauren Erikson at No. 2, 7-5, 7-5.
American took home the doubles point when Kollarova and Georgieva teamed up to beat Sheila Rao and Erikson at No. 1, 9-7. Olga Mikhailova (Moscow, Russia/Tulane) and Aleksandra Zerkalova (Moscow, Russia/Moscow High School) beat Emily Wenink and Alikpala at No. 2 doubles, 8-6.
