The Army Black Knights are off to a great start in the 2008 men's and women's tennis season, and were rewarded with two monthly awards. Senior Eddie Kang took home the men's award, while sophomore Anne Houghton took home the women's award.

Male Tennis Player of the Month
Eddie Kang, Army Sr., Glenview, Ill.

Kang led the Black Knights to a 7-2 record during the opening month of the season, while posting a singles record of 5-1 and a doubles record of 3-3. The senior won his first five singles matches of February before falling to the No. 15 ranked player in the region in a marathon match against Columbia. Kang is currently in a tie for fourth place on Army's all-time singles list with 58 career wins. Kang and partner Sean Harris also dropped a close match to the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the region as well.

Female Tennis Player of the Month
Anne Houghton, Army Fr., Sewickley, Pa.

Houghton has helped lead the Black Knights to a 9-4 record during the early part of the 2008 season. The newcomer posted a 7-1 singles record during the month of February, including a streak of seven-straight wins to end the month. She defeated two regionally ranked opponents from Pittsburgh (No. 26) and Temple (No. 30), and played in the top flight for the entire month. On the doubles side, Houghton teamed with three different teammates to post a record of 5-4 during the month of February.

2008 Patriot League Championship Info
The 2008 Patriot League Championships will take place over the course of two weekends during the month of April. The women will kick things off when they travel to Army for the 2008 Patriot League Women's Tennis Championship. The women's event will take place Friday, April 18 through Sunday, April 20. The men will all meet in Hamilton, N.Y. on the campus of Colgate University for the 2008 Patriot League Men's Tennis Championship. The men's event will take place Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27.

Team Notebook

Army
The Army men and women have jumped out to an impressive start to the 2008 season, as the men currently sit at 7-2 while the women are 9-4. Leading the way for the men is senior Eddie Kang, who posted a 5-1 singles record during the month of February. The women are paced by sophomore Anne Houghton, who notched a 7-1 record in flight one during February.

Bucknell
The Bucknell men have a record of 3-3 so far this season, while the women have a record of 1-5. Senior Ira Reibeisen has once again been the leader for the Bison men with a singles record of 4-2 during the month of February. The women have been led by freshman Lauren Lucido, who is 2-2 at the No. 1 position so far this season.

Colgate
The Colgate women have been impressive so far this season with a 6-1 mark, while the men have won their last two matches to move to 2-4 on the season. Sophomore Michael Yassky had an impressive month of February, as he rattled off a 4-0 record in the No. 5 position. Elise DeRose has been the leader for the women with a 4-0 record at the No. 1 position, as well as a 3-1 record in doubles competition.

Holy Cross
The Crusader men have a current record of 1-1 while the women sit at 2-2 so far this season. Junior Angelo Sica picked up a singles win and a doubles win against St. Francis (N.Y.), while Kristen Meahl went 1-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles.

Lafayette
The Lafayette men have posted a record of 1-3 while the women are 1-0 so far this season. The men dropped their first and only League match of the season to Navy by a score of 7-0.

Lehigh
The Lehigh men are currently 2-4 while the women are 3-4. Both teams are currently competing in the state of Florida as part of their spring break trip. The men defeated Florida Tech in their first match, while the women were defeated by Florida Tech.

Navy
The Navy men sit atop the Patriot League standings with a League record of 1-0 and an overall record of 9-5 so far this season. Owen Bullard and Johnny Waters lead the team in singles victories this season, while junior Jason Hill is third with a record of 5-3 in singles, and a record of 8-1 in doubles. The Mids have played several nationally-ranked opponents so far this season as well.
