ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Playing its first dual in school history, the Navy women's tennis team showed no signs of jitters, sweeping past St. Francis (Pa.), 7-0, at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex. Navy improves to 1-0 on the young season.

Navy won the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point by allowing just nine games, then won all six singles matches in straight sets to earn the 7-0 victory.

"I was pleased with the effort today. The ladies are to be commended for their effort. We have worked really hard as a team to prepare for the spring season and I think it is showing," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. "It felt good to get things started and I feel this match is a good starting point for us."

Navy won the doubles point with three dominating efforts. The freshman duo of Emani Decquir and Dye Das won at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, over the pair of Samantha Fulcheiro and Juliana Gustafson. Brittney Boucher and Stefanie Ton then topped Stephanie Rivera and Devyn Sarver, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles. The Mids then earned the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 3 by Julie Dias and Lindsay Olsen over Caitlin Bart and Laura Husband.

"We came out a little slow in the doubles, but recovered quickly and finished strong. We then kept that momentum going into the singles," said Puryear.

Navy then breezed in singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets and allowing the Red Flash to win just 15 games in the six matches.

Decquir won at No. 1 singles, not allowing a game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Fulcheiro. Boucher topped Rivera, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, while freshman Stefanie Ton knocked off Gustafson, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 singles. Dye Das won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-0, and Natalie Houle (6-1, 6-0) and Lindsay Olsen (6-0, 7-6 [3]) won at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, to complete the sweep.

"Our goal is to continue improving with each match, and we took a step forward today. It was a good start," said Puryear. "We have to continue to work hard and be focused on the goals we have set for ourselves this season."

Navy will be in action next Sunday, when it hosts Manhattan at 10:30 am at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
