Navy senior Laura Gorinski bettered the NCAA B cut time in the 200 breaststroke over the weekend at the Nike Cup.

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The four weekly honors were announced in Patriot League men and women’s swimming and diving Monday, with Navy grabbing a pair of laurels following competition at the Nike Cup in Chapel Hill, N.C.
A pair of Navy seniors were recognized in Ben Bondurant and Laura Gorinski, who both surpassed NCAA B cut qualifiers over the weekend. Army and Bucknell split the diving awards, with West Point senior Chris Nguyen picking up his fourth weekly honor of the season after recording three first-place finishes over the weekend.
MALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
BEN BONDURANT, NAVY Sr., Atlanta, Ga.
Bondurant achieved an NCAA B cut during the Mids’ competition at the Nike Cup over the weekend with a winning time of 1:47.51 in the 200 fly on Saturday. In addition, he was also part of a pair of Navy relay teams to surpass B cut qualifiers, including in the 400 and 800 freestyles. Bondurant also grabbed second in the 200 IM (1:50.70), third in the 100 fly (49.59) and fourth in the consolation swim of the 100 back (51.31). Navy placed third out of six overall.

LAURA GORINSKI, NAVY Sr., Greensburg, Pa.
Like Bondurant, Gorinski surpassed the NCAA B cut qualifier, this time in the 200 breast, one of her signature events. She crashed through the B cut time by nearly 2.5 seconds, taking first by 4.5 seconds with a time of 2:13.56. Gorinski added a first-place finish in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.92, about a half-second shy of the B cut. She also took second in the 200 IM (2:03.11) and third in the 400 IM (4:22.52), and swam as part of three relays as the Mids took fourth at the Nike Cup.

CHRIS NGUYEN, ARMY Sr., Cheshire, Conn.
Nguyen captures his fourth weekly honor of the season after combining for three wins in competition last week for the Black Knights. He picked up a pair of first-place showings at the Frank Elm Invitational in Piscataway, N.J., with wins from the three-meter board (344.60 points) and the platform (246.40). He finished third from the one-meter with 271.70 points. But he wasn’t done there from the one-meter board, as he took first in Army’s meet against Columbia with 315.82 points. Nguyen is three why of Navy’s Kevin Teague, who owns the League record with seven weekly honors in 2005-06.
FEMALE DIVER OF THE WEEK
KATIE HETHERINGTON, BUCKNELL So., Houston, Texas
Hetherington posted a pair of top-three dives at the Bucknell Invitational. She finished in second from the three-meter board with 255.15 points, which was a 20-point improvement over her preliminary effort. She added a third-place finish in the one-meter competition with 238.25 points, also an improved score from her trial dive.
CHRIS SZEKELY, ARMY Fr., Doylestown, Pa.
Szekely won the 200 free in Army’s dual meet against Columbia, while hitting the wall second in the 200 free and third in the 500 free.
MIKE NICHOLSON, BUCKNELL Jr., Chappaqua, N.Y.
Nicholson narrowly missed out on hitting NCAA B cuts in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 breast as Bucknell finished third at the Bucknell Invitational over the weekend. He accounted for two of the Bison’s three wins at the event.
ELIZABETH PORCELLIO, BUCKNELL Sr., Fairport, N.Y.
Porcellio swept the 200 IM and 400 IM events, including setting a personal best in the latter (4:25.08).
EMILY DiDONATO, LEHIGH Sr., Massapequa, N.Y.
DiDonato won a pair of individual events and was part of Lehigh’s victorious 400 medley relay in Friday’s 169-125 victory over Lafayette.
