Center Valley, Pa.--The Patriot League's four weekly awards were divided among two schools. Bucknell claimed both the Male and Female Swimmer of the Week awards, while Army swept the diving accolades.

Male Swimmer of the Week
Daniel Fletcher, Bucknell
Sr., Cedar Grove, N.J.
Fletcher was the top finishing Bison in four of his five individual events at the Big Al Open at Princeton. He also recorded Bucknell’s lone individual win (100-yard back). Fletcher posted season-best times in the 200-yard IM (1:55.80), 200-yard free (1:43.59) and 200-yard backstroke (1:55.34).

 

Female Swimmer of the Week
Abigail Atkinson, Bucknell
Sr., Newtown, Conn.
Atkinson registered five individual top-10 finishes at the Big Al Open in Princeton, N.J. She recorded a season-best time of 24.67 (50-yard free) and 2:10.53 (200-yard IM). SHe was also a member of the third-place 800-yard freestyle relay.

Male Diver of the Week
Brendan Georgas, Army
Jr., Munster, Ind.
Georgas recorded career-high scores to sweep both the one-(290.40) and three-meter (280.72) diving competition in a dual meet at Holy Cross. 

Female Diver of the Week
Lindsay Adao, Army
Sr., New City, N.Y.
Adao registered her fourth sweep of both diving events as she posted winning scores of 273.37 (one-meter) and 269.18 (three-meter) in a dual meet at Holy Cross. This marks the 14th time that Adao has been honored by the Patriot League as Female Diver of the Week.

Team Notebooks

American  The Eagles had last week off. American last competed n Nov. 7 against Patriot League foes Bucknell, Lafayette and Navy. The Eagles dive back into the pool on Friday in Fairfax, Va., when they will compete in the three-day George Mason Invitational

Army The Black Knights competed against Patriot League foe Holy Cross, sweeping both the men’s and women’s events. James McLaughlin won the 50-yard breast stroke and the 100-yard breast stroke, helping the Army men record a 189-89 victory over the Crusaders. Corri Payne won four events, including three individual races, as Army topped Holy Cross in the women’s competition, 185-115. Army also swept the diving events, as Brendan Georgas and Lindsey Adao each won at the one-meter and three-meter heights. This week, the Army women’s squad will compete at C.W. Post, while the Army men’s team will be at Columbia. 

Bucknell Abigail Atkinson finished in the top 10 in nine races, including five individual events at the Big Al Open in Princeton, N.J. On the men’s side, Daniel Fletcher finished in the top 10 in eight events, including four individual races. On the diving board, David Magaro finished third off both boards. He recorded his second-best score of the season off the three-meter board while tallying his third-best score of the season off the one-meter board. Bucknell will next compete in its own event. The Bison will host the Bucknell Open starting Dec. 4.

Colgate The Raiders were last in action against Boston College and Boston University on the weekend of Nov. 7-8. The Colgate women defeated Boston College but lost to Boston University, while the Colgate men dropped both contests. Colgate will not compete again until 2010, when it will host Patriot League foe Bucknell on Jan. 10.

Holy Cross The Crusaders were swept by Patriot League opponent Army over the weekend, falling by a scores of 189-89 on the men’s side and 185-115 in the women’s competition. Senior Maggie Gousman took first place in the 50-yard breast stroke and the 100-yard breast stroke. Holy Cross will hit the road for the remainder of its 2009 schedule, traveling to the Terrier Invitational at Boston University on Nov. 20-22 and to the Harold Anderson Invitational at Rhode Island on Dec. 4-5.

Lafayette The Leopards last competed on Nov. 7 against Patriot League opponents American, Bucknell and Navy. After a break of nearly two weeks, Lafayette will get back into the pool to square off against rival Lehigh on Friday in Bethlehem.

Lehigh After a 12-day layoff, Lehigh will meet rival Lafayette in Bethlehem on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Lehigh last competed on the weekend of Nov. 7-8. The Lehigh men defeated Rider and NJIT, while the Lehigh women fell to Rider but topped NJIT.

Navy The Midshipmen were idle last week and will return to the pool this week. The Navy women’s squad will make the short trip to College Park, Md. for the Terrapin Invitational. The Navy men will travel to Dartmouth. In addition to competing against the Big Green, the Mids will also face Brown.
