Navy Places 18 on League Academic List
July 6, 2006 CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- A combined 18 members of the Navy men's and women's swimming and diving teams were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll Thursday. To be eligible for the list, swimmers and divers must have earned a varsity letter during the 2005-06 season and attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.2 during the 2006 spring semester. The Navy men's team placed 12 members of its squad on the honor roll, while six members of the Navy women's team qualified for the award. A total of 181 swimmers and divers from around the league garnered the accolade. Headlining the Navy contingent were rising senior John Kennedy (Richmond, Va.) and rising sophomores Darby Driscoll (Pennington, N.J.) and Kelly Zahalka (Richmond, Va.), all of whom recorded a 4.0 GPA during the term. Making their second appearance on the honors list were Navy's Jamie Call (Valdez, Alaska), Sheila Singer (Princeton, N.J.), Andy Bockus (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Danny Flemming (Loganville, Ga.), Kennedy, Greg Schmucker (Chicago, Ill.) and Andrew Thorn (Elizabethtown, Pa.). The remaining 11 honorees garnered the league academic award for the first time in their respective careers.
