Patriot League Announces Women's Swimming and Diving Academic Honor Roll

Center Valley, Pa. - One hundred and one student-athletes were named to the 2006 Patriot League Women's Swimming and Diving Academic Honor Roll, announced Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich Thursday. Highlighting this year's honor roll were 11 student-athletes who posted at least 4.00 grade-point averages during the spring semester, as well as the 2006 Patriot League Women's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year American's Meghan Thiel.

Thiel, a language/area studies major, posted a 3.20 grade-point average during the spring term. The 2006 Patriot League Swimmer of the Meet took home gold medals in the 200, 500 and 1,650-yard freestyle events at this past year's Patriot League Championship and participated at the NCAA Championship.

Those obtaining a perfect 4.00 GPA or above in the spring were: American's Shannon Westfall, Army's Erin Stevens, Bucknell's Carlyn Donley, Katherine Munson and Rebecca Scheffter, Colgate's Erin Shope, Holy Cross' Whitney Schmitt, Lafayette's Julia Kumpan, Lehigh's Laura Gray, Navy's Darby Driscoll and Kelly Zahalka.

To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's six winter or 10 spring championship sports.

A total of 978 student-athletes were named to the Patriot League's Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll, which includes the sports of men and women's basketball, men and women's swimming and diving, men and women's indoor track and field, baseball, golf, men and women's lacrosse, rowing, men and women's outdoor track and field, softball and men and women's tennis.
