Center Valley, Pa. - Lehigh's Dan Johnson, the 2009 Patriot League Men's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year, is one of 95 men's swimming and diving student-athletes named to this year's Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Johnson, a senior mechanical engineering major, earned his second consecutive Scholar Athlete of the Year Award after achieving a 3.50 grade-point average for the spring term. Johnson was one of six student-athletes to be named to the All-Patriot League First Team and to the Academic Honor Roll.
Six student-athletes posted a 4.0 grade-point average for the spring term. Bucknell's Taylor Harris, a management major, was the only freshman with a 4.0 mark. Lafayette Juniors Jonathon Jenkins, a computer science major, and Stephen Rubio, a history major, both earned 4.0 grade-point averages for the Leopards. Another pair of teammates, Navy's Alex Buck, an aerospace engineering major, and Matthew Harmon, a naval architecture major, accomplished the feat as well. Holy Cross's Matt Mullaney, an economics and classics double major, rounds out the list of student-athletes earning 4.0 grade-point averages in the spring term.
Lafayette led all Patriot League schools with 18 student-athletes making the Academic Honor Roll. Holy Cross tallied 16 student-athletes for Honor Roll selection, while Bucknell placed 13 and Army, Lehigh, and Navy all had 11 on the list.
To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's seven fall championship sports. The criteria for awarding varsity letters are different at each institution.
