2005-06 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At-Large Teams

The Patriot League placed two student-athletes on the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Men's At-Large Team, including Army golfer Patrick Beverly (Humble, Texas/Humble) and Colgate swimmer Levi Benson (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone). Beverly was a second-team selection, while Benson earned third-team honors.

Beverly played in every round this spring for the Black Knights, sporting a 79.3 stroke average, and helped Army earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Regional for the third consecutive year. His best individual finish this spring was at the Patriot League Championship where he finished tied for eighth, earning Second-Team All-Patriot League honors.

The now-junior carries a 3.89 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in management.

This past season, Benson swam the second leg of the Raiders' varsity record-setting 400 free relay at the Patriot League Championship. Benson ranks fourth all-time at Colgate in the 100 backstroke, and sixth in the 200 back.

Benson graduated from Colgate last month magna cum laude with a 3.73 cumulative grade-point average, and with honors in molecular biology.

Beverly and Benson join Army women's soccer player Julie Jorgensen and Bucknell baseball player Matt Capece as Patriot League student-athletes to earn academic all-america status.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 on a scale of 4.00 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing.

The men's at-large program for the Academic All-America program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
