Bison Diver Adam Freeman Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team
May 27, 2005 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bison diver Adam Freeman was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District At-Large second team, announced by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. The honor is the second academic award of the year for Freeman, who was named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's swimming and diving for the second time in his career. Freeman claimed the silver medal in the one-meter dive at the 2005 Patriot League Championships, one of only two Bison men to notch a second place performance. He added to the Bison scoring in the three-meter dive, finishing fourth overall. For his efforts at the championships, Freeman was selected to the All-Patriot League second team. Freeman snapped the school record in the one meter dive in two consecutive weeks, finally setting the mark at 318.15, a score he tallied at the Bison Invitational on Feb. 12. At the same competition, Freeman shattered his own school record in the three-meter dive (11 dives) with a score of 508.35. He was the only Bison on men's side to participate in postseason competition, qualifying for the NCAA Zone `A' Diving Championships in Annapolis, Md., in March. Freeman had two commendable performances, finishing 21st in both the one and three-meter dives, narrowly missing spots in the 18-competitor final in each event. A senior academically, Freeman has another year remaining in his athletic career due to an injury during his junior year. Freeman, who is double majoring in mechanical engineering and economics, boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.6. He is also a member of several honor societies due to his academic prowess. His resume includes nominations to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honor Society, Omicron Delta Epsilon Economics Honor Society, Mortar Board College Senior Honor Society and Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honorary. Freeman is also a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, where he has been the Vice President Member Development since 2004. He also a part of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and participates in the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) on campus. Fellow Bison Ryan Goodman was named to the All-District first team. The senior lacrosse player posted a 3.78 GPA as an electrical engineering major. To be eligible, an athlete must be have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. CoSIDA's District II covers Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
