ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Sophomore Tom Duvall became just the third Navy men's swimmer in the last four decades to earn All-America honors in an individual event when he garnered the laurel by placing seventh in the finals of the 500 freestyle Thursday at the NCAA Championship in Austin, Texas.

Duvall entered the meet seeded 14th in the event with his qualifying time of 4:15.86, a time that also stood as the Navy and Patriot League record. He would lower the standard even more Thursday morning as he posted a 4:14.04 to rank seventh in the trial heats and advance on to the evening's championship final.

He would hold his qualifying position from the trial heats in the final with a time of 4:16.85.

The lone other Navy men's swimmers since 1974 to garner All-America accolades in an individual event were Ian Johnston in 1996 (100 and 200 breaststroke) and Adam Meyer in both 2009 and 2010 (200 butterfly).

Duvall was one of seven Mids to compete in the three-day meet. Navy's Brendan Walsh, Sean Murphy, Jonathan Debaugh and Dain Bomberger took part in both the 200 and 400 medley relays. Riley Mita, Debaugh, Duvall and Bomberger comprised the Mids 800 Freestyle Relay squad. Luke Hoffer participated in the 200 Breaststroke field along with Murphy.

Additionally, Duvall swam in the 200 and 1650 freestyle and Murphy and Hoffer in the 100 breaststroke. Navy placed 31st at this year's national meet with 12 points. That was ahead of such programs as Wisconsin (33rd, 10 points), North Carolina (T-3th, 7) and Harvard (42nd, 4).
