COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Tara Chapmon (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) posted the fourth-fastest time in Navy history in the trial heats of the 200 freestyle event Friday morning at the NCAA Swimming Championship in College Station, Texas. This effort comes one day after she recorded the school's second-fastest time in the 500 freestyle.

Chapmon completed Friday's 200 free in a time of 1:48.69 to place 58th in the field of competitors. She has now recorded the top-four times in the event in school history, including her school-record mark of 1:46.26.

"Though it was one of the better marks in school history, we were a little disappointed by Tara's time today," said Navy head coach John Morrison. "We felt she had the potential to put together a better time. It seemed as if she was trying too hard today. She was trying to make things happen instead of swimming her race and that cost her some time."

Chapmon is also entered into Saturday's 1650 freestyle race, though there is the possibility that she could choose to not swim the event. A decision on whether or not she will compete in the 1650 free will be made Saturday morning.
