The senior, who was seeded 29th overall, posted the second best time of her career, 1:01.06, to move up two spots. USC's Rebecca Soni posted a best 58.60 in the preliminaries. The top eight swimmers gain first team all-American honors, while the next eight garner honorable mention accolades. The cut off time for the top 16 was a 1:00.36.
Originally, the 100 breast field was set for 39 swimmers, however once a participant gets an invitation in one event, she can compete in others. Murphy is taking advantage of this Saturday as she is expected to compete in the 200 breast.
