CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Bucknell senior Christian Treat was named Men’s Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headed up a list of 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-Patriot League team, it was announced Wednesday.

The All-Academic Team is comprised of six student-athletes from League champion Navy, including Ben Bondurant and Justin Vagts, and juniors Hugh Davison, Ben Freedman, Luke Hoffer and Sean Murphy. Bucknell placed two, with Trevor Reitz joining Treat. American junior Bobby Ballance and Army’s Joon Chung rounded out the team.

The Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-League team are nominated and voted on by the League’s swimming and diving sports information directors who cannot cast a ballot for their own student-athletes.

Treat made history by becoming the first in Patriot League history to be named Scholar-Athlete of the Year three straight years. Last year he became just the third in League annals to garner the award twice in men’s swimming and diving.

Treat garnered first-team All-Patriot League laurels at the League’s championship meet for the second straight season after taking fourth place in the 200 IM and 100 breast (where his time of 55.67 broke a Bucknell record), and adding a five-place showing in the 200 breast. He was the second-highest scorer on his team at the meet behind Mike Nicholson. In all, Treat has scored in 12 individual races at the League meet.

Treat’s academic achievement have been just as impressive. A three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, the Evergreen, Colo., native is a six-time member of Bucknell’s Dean’s List, and belongs to the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, where is the scholarship and social chair. Treat is also a student-athlete leader in the Bison Leadership academy, and has participated in a number of community-based initiatives, including Swim Across America to raise funding for cancer research and also volunteering at the Special Olympics. Treat is the co-author of three journal articles, including one that was published in the Journal of Public Transportation.
