CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its All-League team in the sports of men’s and women’s swimming and diving Wednesday, and it was another big haul for Navy, which swept the Patriot League championships last weekend at Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg, Pa.

Individuals who win events at the Patriot League Championships automatically qualify for the All-League first team, while runner-up finishers are guaranteed a second-team spot. Both teams are back-filled by points, meaning a second-team member can move up to the first team if they accumulated enough points during the meet. Only individual points count.

A total of 72 student-athletes earned All-League laurels, 36 in both genders, with 18 on the first team and 18 on the second team on each side. Navy led with 27 total All-League selections after sweeping both Patriot League championships last weekend.

The Navy men placed a League-high 16 on the All-League squad, with 13 on the first team headed up by event winners Ben Bondurant, Justin Vagts, Hugh Davison, Ben Grove, Conor Campbell, Brendan Walsh and Sean Murphy. Joe Stark, Thomas Duvall, Luke Hoffer, Riley Mita, Jonathan Debaugh and Alex Nickell qualified for the first team based on points.

Ben Freedman, Robbie Parker and Danny Quinn were second-team All-League selections, with Freedman earning his spot with a runner-up finish and Parker and Quinn making it on points.

Eleven Navy women made the All-League squad, with seven on the first team. Laura Gorinski won three races for the third time at the League meet to earn her fourth first-team accolade. Rachael Dudley, Rheanna Vaughn and Toni Paruso earned first-team laurels with race victories. Maddie Thompson, Ellen Bradford and Ange Sawick earned their first-team spots based on championship points.

Bucknell, which finished second in the women’s standings at the championship meet, placed six on the first team and eight overall. Lauren Perry, Kelly Pontecorvo, Emma Levendoski, Katie Hetherington and Tara Boyle were event winners, while Ashley Henderson earned first-team accolades based on points. Stephanie Koziol was named to the second team for a runner-up finish, while Liz Porcellio qualified on points.

The Army men finished a strong second to Navy, led by senior Chris Nguyen, who swept the two diving events and earned first-team All-League laurels for the fourth straight year. Chris Szekely, Michael Dustin and Zachary Woods earned second-team placement with runner-up showings in events, with Ayman Andrews, Samuel Mo, Wil Viana, Chad Drake, Richard Xue and Dan Foky making the second team on points. In all, 10 Black Knights made All-League on the men’s side.

The Bucknell men saw Mike Nicholson and Christian Treat capture first-team All-League laurels on points, while Billy Krause, Ben Seketa and Erik Heinemann appeared on the second team because of points.

The Colgate women placed three on the first team, led by event winner Emma Santoro. Lia Kunnapas and Lindsey Sagasta garnered first-team recognition on points. Ryan Marynowski and Kim Pilka took silver medals at the championships to earn second-team placement, and Megan Jex, Morgan Cohara, Jenna Jacoby, Melanie Lockard and Sami Wary made the squad on points.

Molly Mucciarone of Army made the women’s first team for her event victory, while Natalie Beale and Grace Hamilton were second-team selections on points.

Carolyn Koch scored enough points to earn a spot on the women’s first team All-League, while Courtney Patterson picked up second-team laurels after the first League championship meet of her career.

The Lehigh men were led by Chris Hoke, who scored enough points to earn first-team laurels, while Danny Bennett and Demetrios Karedis made the second team on points as well.

The American men earned two All-League selections, with Bobby Ballance collecting first-team laurels and Matt Wurm second-team recognition because of points.

American diver Melissa Parker picked up a silver medal at last weekend’s championships to earn a second-team All-League certificate.

The 2014 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships are set for Feb. 19-22 from Lejeune Hall on the campus of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
