Center Valley, Pa. - The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced its list of Academic All-American teams for the Fall of 2009 on Friday, and the men's and women's teams from American, Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh were recognized. In order for a team to earn Academic All-American status from the CSCAA, it must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher.
Two men's teams placed in the top four, with American at the top of the list with a 3.47 GPA. Lafayette's average of 3.30 was fourth. Lehigh also appeared in the rankings with a 3.13 average, as did Bucknell with a 3.06 cumulative GPA.
On the women's side, the Bison were the top Patriot League school on the list, in seventh place with a 3.46 GPA. The Leopards followed closely behind in 10th with a 3.43 average. American and Lehigh also appeared in the tally, with the Eagles recording a 3.41 team GPA, while the Mountain Hawks' average was 3.26.
Most League schools are wrapping up regular season action this weekend in anticipation of the Patriot League Championships. They will be held Thu.-Sat., Feb. 18-20, at Navy's Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Md.
