LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman Mike Nicholson (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) was named the Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Nicholson had an outstanding weekend, posting a total of six first-place finishes in dual meets against Army and Columbia.
Nicholson opened the weekend with first-place showings in the 200 fly, 200 breast and 200 IM in a 156-142 loss to Patriot League foe Army on Saturday. He followed that performance with gold medals in the 200 fly, 200 breast and 400 IM Sunday in a 137-104 loss at Columbia. Overall, Nicholson claimed six of Bucknell's 15 first-place finishes this past weekend.
With his weekend showing, Nicholson now has 18 first-place finishes spanning six events (200 IM, 400 IM, 200 fly, 200 back, 1,000 free, 200 breast) this season.
A two-time Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week, Nicholson already ranks in the top 10 in Bucknell (5-4) history in four events (200 breast, 200 fly, 200 IM, 400 IM).
Nicholson and his Bison teammates will be back in action this Saturday, Jan. 22, when they host Patriot League opponent Lehigh at Kinney Natatorium. Start time for the meet is 1 p.m.
