Patriot League Composite Schedule

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - If the predictions from coaches and sports information directors are any indication, both Patriot League golf championships should feature close finishes in 2014.

Army took first place in the Patriot League Men's Golf Championship poll with 89 points and seven first-place votes as the Black Knights prepare to host the event at West Point Golf Course on April 26-27. Loyola was right behind with 88 points and eight-first place votes, with Navy (71), Lehigh (70/1 first-place vote), Bucknell (45), Lafayette (39), Colgate (31) and Holy Cross (15) completing the poll order.

Boston University and Lehigh tied for first place in the Patriot League Women's Golf Championship poll with 28 points, with the Terriers notching six first-place votes to four for the Mountain Hawks. Bucknell (22), Navy (12) and Holy Cross (10) filled out the poll.

The spring season is already underway across the Patriot League, and a pair of freshmen were honored for their performance so far as Loyola's Matt Oshrine and Boston University's Adela Cejnarova earned the Golfer of the Month awards.

Patriot League Male Golfer of the Month
Matt Oshrine, Loyola Maryland Fr., Baltimore, Md.
Oshrine has been at or under par in four of his nine rounds thus far in the spring, with a trio of top-15 finishes in three tournaments for the Greyhounds. He was tied for 15th with a 4-under 212 (69-74-69) at the Snowman Getaway on Feb. 24-25 as the Greyhounds placed fifth in a strong 17-team field. Loyola came in third at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate on March 9-11 behind Oshrine's fourth-place finish that featured a final round 70. Oshrine placed eighth out of 141 golfers at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate on March 23-25 by shooting a 4-over 214 (71-70-73). Oshrine leads the team with a 72.1 stroke average in the spring and 72.7 for the season.

 

 

Patriot League Female Golfer of the Month
Adela Cejnarova, Boston University Fr., Prague, Czech Republic
Cejnarova had top-30 finishes in each of the two events for the Terriers in March. She placed 28th at the Kiawah Island Classic on March 2-4 by shooting a 228 (78-71-79), then came in 19th at the Pinehurst Challenge on March 15-16 with a 154 (78-76). Her 71 in the second round at the Kiawah Island Classic was the only under-par round for a BU golfer in March. Cejnarova is the third different Terrier named Patriot League Female Golfer of the Month this season, joining Emily Tillo (September) and Kristyna Pavlickova (October).

Honorable Mention
Renata Bucher, Navy So., Colorado Springs, Colo.
Bucher had top-10 finishes at the Bulldog Florida Invitational (2nd) and Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate (eighth) in March.

Lauren Bernard, Bucknell Sr., Malvern, Pa.
Bernard placed fourth at the Bison Challenge at Paiute from March 10-11.

2014 Patriot League Women's Golf Championship
The 2014 Patriot League Women's Golf Championship will be hosted by Lehigh at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa. on April 19-20. The full-field event features Boston University, Bucknell, Holy Cross and Navy as well as the host Mountain Hawks. Each participating team is limited to six golfers with the top four scorers each round counting towards the team total. The final team score is determined by totaling all completed rounds. Individual scoring consists of the lowest aggregate score of all completed rounds. Lehigh defeated Bucknell by three strokes in the inaugural Patriot League Women's Golf Championship in 2013.

Women's Golf Spring Update
With the League Championship just two weeks away, Patriot League women's golf teams are nearing completion of their pre-championship schedules. Boston University and Bucknell have already been in the same field at both the Kiawah Island Classic and Pinehurst Challenge, with the Terriers finishing ahead of the Bison both times. Lehigh placed in front of Navy at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate and Hoya Invitational. BU and Bucknell will both compete at the Seton Hall Invitational over the weekend as events before the League Championship continue.

Men's Golf Spring Update
The men's golf spring season started as early as mid-February for a handful of Patriot League schools, and has already featured events with multiple League teams in the field. Loyola was ahead of Navy at the Snowman Getaway on Feb. 24-25 and in front of Bucknell at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate on March 23-25, while Army (2nd), Lehigh (12th) and Bucknell (16th) all competed at the Wildcat Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. Multiple Patriot League teams will be in the field at the Lafayette Invitational (April 6-7) and Navy Spring Invitational (April 18-19) before convening for the League Championship.
