Field Hockey 9/10/2018 3:30:20 PM Patriot League Field Hockey Players of the Week Announced (9.10.18) CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Boston University sophomore forward Ailsa Connolly’s four-point performance in a win over No. 9 Northwestern helped her seal Patriot League Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season when it was announced by the League office on Monday. Bucknell senior defender Lexi Quick captured her second-straight Patriot League Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week award after helping the Bison to a comeback, 3-2, win over Lock Haven on Friday. American senior goalkeeper Maura Jacobs totaled 18 saves against a pair of top-25 opponents to claim goalkeeper of the week, while Lehigh freshman midfielder Olivia Perrone tallied the game-winning goal against Ball State to be selected rookie of the week. Bucknell senior forward Nicole Rupnik, Boston University senior defender Allie Doggett and Lehigh junior goalkeeper Paige Innarella each picked up weekly honorable mention for their performances last week. Patriot League Field Hockey Notes Patriot League Play Begins This Week Six of the seven Patriot League teams will begin League play this week, as rivals Lehigh and Lafayette meet on Friday evening at 7 p.m. Colgate hosts Bucknell on Saturday (11 a.m.), before American hosts Boston University at noon. All three games will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network (PLN). Patriot League in the Polls Boston University, the Patriot League’s defending champion, and preseason favorite came in at No. 24 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll (NFHCA) when it was announced last Tuesday. Patriot League vs. Ranked Opponents The Patriot League went 1-6 against NFHCA top-25 teams last week with No. 24 Boston University defeating No. 9 Northwestern, 4-3, in overtime on Sunday afternoon. American fell to No. 17 Harvard (5-2) and No. 12 Delaware (1-0). The Terriers dropped an early week matchup against No. 22 Ohio State, 4-2. The Buckeyes also defeated Lehigh, 5-0 on Sunday. Lafayette dropped a 5-1 decision to No. 19 Maine on Sunday. This week, Patriot League teams will play against three ranked opponents, all on Sunday. Boston University takes on No. 5 Penn State in College Park, Md. (1 p.m.), Bucknell travels to No. 10 Syracuse (1 p.m.) and Lafayette hosts No. 25 Albany (1 p.m.). How to Watch Upcoming Games Six field hockey matches will be streamed on the Patriot League Network (PLN) this week beginning with Holy Cross hosting LIU Brooklyn on Friday evening at 6 p.m. League play starts an hour later when Lehigh makes the short drive to Lafayette to renew the rivalry at 7 p.m. On Saturday, League play continues with Colgate hosting Bucknell at 11 a.m., before American and Boston University meet at noon in a matchup of the last two League champions. The Raiders host Bryant in a 1 p.m. match on Sunday and Lafayette welcomes No. 25 Albany, also beginning at 1 p.m. PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ailsa Connolly, Boston University, So., Forward, Auckland, New Zealand/St. Cuthbert’s *Connolly combined for eight points on three goals and two assists through three games last week, including two comeback victories. *Scored a goal and had two assists in the Terriers’ 4-3 victory over No. 9 Northwestern. *She scored two goals in a loss to No. 22 Ohio State on Monday. PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Lexi Quick, Bucknell, Sr., Defender, Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary *Quick had a hand in each of Bucknell’s scoring plays with one goal and two assists in a 3-2 victory over Lock Haven on Friday. *She anchored a defense that held Lock Haven to just three shots in the second half of a comeback win. *Leads the Bison with 10 points on the season. PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK Maura Jacobs, American, Sr., Goalkeeper, New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff *Finished the week with 18 saves and six goals against in losses to No. 17 Harvard and No. 12 Delaware. *Posted nine saves, allowing just one goal in a 1-0 loss to the No. 12 Blue Hens. *Her .764 save percentage is second in the Patriot League. PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Olivia Perrone, Lehigh, Fr., Midfielder, Berlin, N.J./Eastern *Perrone scored the game-winning goal, unassisted, at the 53:50 mark to give Lehigh a 2-1 win over Ball State. *The goal was the first of her collegiate career. *Lehigh registered its first win against the Cardinals since 1984. HONORABLE MENTIONS Nicole Rupnik, Bucknell, Sr., Forward, Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff *Rupnik scored the game-winning goal with 1:12 remaining in the game in a 3-2 win over Lock Haven.
