Patriot League Announces M-F Athletic Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (1.9.18)

Lanier, West, McGriff, Alleyne, Hughey and Curtin earn individual honors
 
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After the long break for final exams and the holiday season, the Patriot League had five men’s and six women’s indoor track & field teams back in action last weekend. On Friday, January 5, the men’s and women’s teams from Army West Point and Lehigh traveled to the Wagner Invitational. On Saturday, January 6, Bucknell hosted the Bucknell Tri-Meet, which included League member Lafayette. The Navy men hosted Princeton in a dual-meet while the Navy and Holy Cross women traveled to the Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason University.
 
Navy junior Demetrius Lanier was selected as the M-F Athletic Patriot League Male Track Athlete of the Week, while sophomore teammate Grace West was selected as the M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Week. Lafayette senior Dave McGriff was selected as the M-F Athletic Patriot League Male Field Athlete of the Week. Navy junior Jahna Alleyne earned the M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week and freshman teammate Eric Hughey earned the M-F Athletic Male Rookie of the Week. Lehigh freshman Brittany Curtin earned the M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Rookie of the Week.
 
This weekend Army West Point travels to College Station, Texas for the Ted Nelson Invitational, then to Houston for the Leonard Hilton Invitational. They will join Colgate, Lafayette and the Loyola Maryland women at the Great Dane Invitational being held in Staten Island, N.Y. In addition, Lafayette will be attending the Spartan Invite, also being held in Staten Island. The Holy Cross men will be competing at the Tiger Invitational in Boston, while the women head to Cambridge, Mass. for the Beantown Challenge. Lehigh will be hosting the Angry Birds Challenge, while Navy will host the Navy Invitational.   
  
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Demetrius Lanier, Navy, Jr., Sprinter, Palm Coast, Fla.
Lanier posted a pair of IC4A qualifying times by winning the 200-meter dash in 21.51 seconds and placing second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.94. His 200-meter time is second in the Patriot League this season while ranking 11th in NCAA Division I.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Grace West, Navy, So., Distance, Pinehurst, N.C.
At the Father Diamond Invitational, West won the 3000-meter run with an ECAC qualifying time of 10:03.07. The time ranks her in third-place in the Patriot League this season.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Dave McGriff, Lafayette, Sr., Thrower, Flemington, N.J.
Competing at the Bucknell Tri-Meet, McGriff earned IC4A qualifying marks for both the shot put and the weight throw, winning both events. He leads the Patriot League in the weight throw with a distance of 18.01-meters, while also ranking 32nd in NCAA Division I.  
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jahna Alleyne, Navy, Jr., Thrower, York, Pa.
At the Father Diamond Invitational, Alleyne set a personal record in winning the weight throw with a 15.34-meter toss. His distance was the top throw for Navy this season.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE MALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Eric Hughey, Navy, Fr., Sprinter, Lee’s Summit, Mo.
At the Navy-Princeton Dual Meet, Hughey recorded an IC4A qualifying time of 49.14 seconds in the 400-meter dash in his first collegiate race, while finishing in second-place. His time is the third-best in the Patriot League this season and the 37th in NCAA Division I.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brittany Curtin, Lehigh, Fr., Thrower, Ronkonkoma, N.Y.
Competing at the Wagner Invitational, Curtin had an ECAC-qualifying mark of 16.73-meters in the weight throw while finishing in second-place. The throw ranks as the second-best mark in the Patriot League this season. She also finished in fifth-place in the shot put with a 12.77-meter throw.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Sean Brennan, Navy, Jr., Thrower, West Field, N.J.
Competing at the Navy-Princeton Dual Meet, Brennan posted a pair of IC4A qualifying marks in the shot put and weight throw. He placed second in the shot put with a throw of 16.36-meters and third in the weight throw with a 17.51-meter toss.

Stacie Nadel,  Lehigh, Jr., Distance, Glen Head, N.Y.
At the Wagner Invitational, Nadel placed second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:17.31, which is the fifth-best time this season in the Patriot League.
 
Trevor Knowles, Lehigh, Sr., Sprinter, Lebanon, N.J.
Competing at the Wagner Invitational, Knowles placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.40 seconds. It is the fifth-best time in the Patriot League this season.
 
Ryan Givens, Lehigh, Jr., Jumper, Ocean City, N.J.
At the Wagner Invitational, Givens won the high jump with a 2.00 meter jump. He leads the Patriot League in that event.
 
Anastasios Mouzakis, Lehigh, Fr., Thrower, Blauvelt, N.Y.
Competing at the Wagner Invitational, the freshman Mouzakis placed fourth in the weight throw with a 16.01-meter throw. He holds the two highest throws in that event by a freshman in the Patriot League this season.
 
Sam Fishbein, Lafayette, Fr., Thrower, Summit, N.J.
At the Bucknell Tri-Meet, the freshman Fishbein placed second to teammate Dave McGriff with a 15.28-meter toss in the weight throw. He also placed fifth in the shot put with a 13.81-meter throw.
