Bailey Mathis named Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year
 
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola Maryland senior defender Bailey Mathis was named the Corvias Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year and one of the 12 members on the sport’s Academic All-Patriot League Team announced on Wednesday.
 
The academic honors are voted on by the Patriot League’s women’s lacrosse sports information directors, who cannot vote for their own student-athletes.
 
Mathis, a psychology major with a communications minor, carries a 3.914 cumulative grade point average (GPA), and earns her third-consecutive Academic All-Patriot League nod. On the field, Mathis has earned a spot on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List and was named an All-Patriot League First Team defender for the second-consecutive season. She is joined on the academic all-League team by four other all-League members, including teammate and sophomore defender Kristen Yanchoris, who helped Mathis lead the Greyhounds to their fourth-consecutive undefeated regular season in Patriot League play and begin the quest for their fourth League Championship on Friday evening. In the classroom, Yanchoris carries a 3.93 GPA with a major in business and minor in marketing. The two-time all-League defender is also a Presidential Scholarship recipient and three-time Deans list honoree.
 
Lafayette senior Kirsten Wilhelmsen, the 2017 Attacker of the Year, earned her third-consecutive Academic All-Patriot League selection after being named to her fourth all-League first team on Monday. In addition to leading the Patriot League in goals (63) and points (86), Wilhelmsen carries a 3.46 GPA as a psychology major and economics minor.
 
Lehigh senior attacker Allison LaBeau, who broke Patriot League Tournament single-game records in points (11) and assists (6) in a quarterfinal win over Bucknell on Tuesday, earns her second-straight academic all-League honor. The senior journalism major carries a 3.41 GPA.
 
Boston University senior Janelle Macone earned her second Academic All-Patriot League honor after being selected to the all-League second team on Monday. Macone helped lead the Terriers to the third-seed in the Patriot League Tournament, while carrying a 3.61 GPA with a major in business administration and management with a minor in finance and real estate.
 
Bucknell junior Eve Lukowski, the defending Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earned her second Academic All-Patriot League honor. On the field, Lukowski finished with 12 goals and nine assists, while keeping a 3.95 GPA while majoring in managing and sustainability.
 
Senior Shelby Lindsay is the first Academic All-Patriot League selection from the Army West Point women’s lacrosse program. American senior Sarah Bootman, Colgate senior Isabel Kreitler, Holy Cross senior Maddy Smith, Lafayette junior Dana Smith, Lehigh junior Kayleen Kelly and Navy sophomore Marie Valenti round out the list of academic all-League honorees.
 
To be eligible for the Corvias Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
 
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
