Patriot League Announces Corvias Baseball Weekly Awards (5.2.17)
 
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Lehigh senior 1B David Young earned his first Corvias Player of the Week honor after driving in 12 runs and scoring six times during a 4-2 week for the Mountain Hawks. Bucknell RHP Connor Van Hoose picked up his second Corvias Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete game shutout in a win over Navy on Saturday. Holy Cross freshman outfielder Austin Masel earns his second Corvias Rookie of the Week honor after batting .438 during a four-game series with Lafayette.
 
Lafayette sophomore catcher John Selsor and Holy Cross sophomore infielder Kellen McCormick both made the weekly honor roll, joined by Army reliever Sam Messina and Navy RHP Kyle Condry.
 
THIS WEEK IN THE PATRIOT LEAGUE; LEAGUE PLAY FINISHED, TEAMS WRAP NON-LEAGUE SCHEDULE
Patriot League play ended on Sunday, with Bucknell also concluding its regular season. The five other Patriot League teams will all wrap up their regular seasons over the next eight days with non-League competition prior to the beginning of the Patriot League Championships on Saturday, May 13. Navy hosts UMBC on Tuesday to conclude its regular season. Lafayette travels to LaSalle on Tuesday, then hosts Niagara for a three-game weekend series.
 
Lehigh takes on Saint Peter’s on Wednesday, before heading to Longwood for a three-game weekend series. Army West Point hosts LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday, before hosting Hartford for a three-game weekend series. The Black Knights conclude their regular season against Villanova on Wednesday, May 10. Holy Cross concludes its regular season on Wednesday when they host Marist.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD SET
No. 1 Navy (36-14, 16-4 PL), will host No. 4 Bucknell (19-26, 10-10 PL) at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium in Annapolis, Md. for the second-consecutive season. The Mids posted their best League record in program history and the best since Army West Point went 18-2 in 2012. Navy will begin their quest to repeat as Patriot League Champions against Bucknell after taking 3-of-4 games from the Bison during the final weekend of the League play. The Bison clinched a Patriot League Championship berth with a 5-0 win against the Mids on Saturday.
 
No. 2 Holy Cross (19-24, 12-8 PL) will host No. 3 Army West Point (23-26, 10-10 PL) at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field in Worcester, Mass. The Crusaders claimed the second-seed and hosting duties for the semifinals for the second-consecutive season despite dropping 3-of-4 games to Lafayette over the weekend. Army West Point clinched its spot with a 7-5 victory in nine innings against Lehigh on Sunday afternoon. The Black Knights were the last team to clinch, but moved up to the third-seed because of a 3-1 head-to-head record against Bucknell, who also is 10-10 in League play.

NCAA LEADERS IN THE PATRIOT LEAGUE
*Navy is 24th in NCAA Division I with a team batting average of.307 and sixth in the nation with 518 hits. *The Mids have reached base at a .390 clip this season; 30th-best in the nation.  
*Navy’s Travis Blue is third in the nation with 72 hits. Teammate Logan Knowles is 13th with 69 and fourth with six triples and fifth with 54 runs.
*Lehigh is 34th in the nation, averaging 1.09 home runs per game. They have a total of 50 this season. Jacen Nalesnik has a League-leading 12.
*Lafayette’s Trevor Houck and Navy’s Kyle Condry are tied for sixth in the nation with four complete games. Bucknell Connor Van Hoose, Holy Cross’s Brendan King and Lehigh’s Levi Stoudt are tied for 11th in the nation with three complete games apiece.
*Navy outfielder Leland Saile is 5th in the nation with 58 RBIs.
*Lehigh freshman pitcher Levi Stoudt leads the Patriot League and is 37th in NCAA Division I with a 2.03 ERA. 
*Bucknell’s Connor Van Hoose is 23rd in the nation with 84 strikeouts and 38th with 11.34 strikeouts per nine innings. Navy’s Noah Song is 38th in strikeouts with 78 and 67th in K’s/9 at 10.48.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE/NCAA BASEBALL WEEKLY AWARDS
CORVIAS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DAVID YOUNG, LEHIGH, Sr., 1B, Mullica Hill, N.J.
Young batted .476 (10-for-21), while reaching base at a .500 clip and slugging 1.000 during a 4-2 week for the Mountain Hawks. The senior first baseman drove in homered three times, driving in 12 runs, while scoring six. Young had four multi-hit games, including a 3-for-4 performance where he drove in a career-high six runs and scored twice to help beat Army, 16-3. He went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a home run and two RBIs in an eventual 8-5 loss to the Black Knights.
 
CORVIAS PITCHER OF THE WEEK
CONNOR VAN HOOSE, BUCKNELL, Jr., RHP, Alexandria, Va.
Van Hoose tossed his third complete game of the season, going 7.0 shutout innings, while allowing just three hits and seven strikeouts. Van Hoose earned a 5-0 victory over the Bison to help them clinch a spot in the Patriot League Championships. His 84 strikeouts leads the Patriot League and is the second-best single-season total in Bucknell history.

CORVIAS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
AUSTIN MASEL, HOLY CROSS, Fr., OF, Stoneham, Mass.
Masel batted .438 (7-for-16), while reaching base at a .500 clip and slugging .688 for Holy Cross in a 1-3 week. The freshman outfielder opened the series against Lafayette with a pair of three-hit games, going 3-for-4 driving in two runs, scoring twice with a home run. He went 3-for-5 in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. The freshman went 1-for-3 with a run scored in a game one loss to Lafayette on Sunday.
 
HONORABLE MENTION
JOHN SELSOR, LAFAYETTE, So., C/DH, La Canada, Calif.
Selsor batted .421 (8-for-19) with a .455 on-base percentage and .842 slugging percentage helping the Leopards take three of four games from Holy Cross. The sophomore catcher had three multi-hit games against the Crusaders, while driving in eight runs during the series. Selsor went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs in an 8-7 victory over Holy Cross during game one on Saturday. He also went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs in a 10-9 victory in game two on Sunday.
 
KELLEN MCCORMICK, HOLY CROSS, So., DH/INF, Rockford, Ill.
McCormick batted .727 (8-for-11), while scoring four runs and driving in seven for Holy Cross during the 1-3 week. The sophomore infielder opened the series with the Leopards going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. He went 2-for-2 with two RBIs in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader to help the Crusaders to an 8-7 win. In the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader he went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in a losing effort.  

SAM MESSINA, ARMY WEST POINT, So., RHP, Phoenix, Ariz.
Messina made three relief appearances spanning 4.2 innings, where he did not allow a hit or a run last week. The sophomore right-hander tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in a midweek victory over Marist. He struck out four batters in 1.2 innings in a 4-3 win over Lehigh to earn the victory, then earned a save, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings in an 8-5 victory.
 
KYLE CONDRY, NAVY, Sr., RHP, Highland Village, Texas
Condry tossed 7.0 complete innings, while allowing one run on six hits to beat Bucknell, clinching the regular-season title and top-seed in the Patriot League Championships. Condry struck out five and walked two in the 6-1 Navy victory.
