Patriot League Announces M-F Athletic Indoor Track and Field Weekly Awards (2.7.17)
 
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Each Patriot League men’s and women’s indoor track & field program was in action this past weekend with several top times being set just two weeks prior to the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships at Boston University’s Track & Tennis Center, beginning on Friday, February 17.
 
The Army West Point men defeated Navy for the first time in five years, while the women defeated the Mids for the third-straight season, giving the Black Knights a sweep for the first time in 22 years.
 
American closed its indoor regular season at the Camel City Classic, as junior Brianna Belo broke the program record in the 800-meter run. Boston University turned in a strong performance in the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational, with Cameron Williams (200-meter dash) and David Oluwadara (triple jump) each setting new Patriot League top marks this season. The Bucknell men had four individual victories and three IC4A-qualifying times at the Youngstown State Invitational the Bison women had a strong performance at the Meyo Invitational. Colgate also turned in a strong performance at the Meyo Invitational with Bobby Galante (5000m), Ethan Dorow (800m) and Vicky Martinez (3000m) set personal records during the meet.
 
Holy Cross had a strong showing at the Rhode Island Coaches Invitational, as junior Alanna Hitscherich set a program record and turned in the third-best long jump in the Patriot League this season, with a leap of 5.69 meter, before tying for first in the triple jump at 11.09 meters.
 
Lafayette had an impressive showing at the New Balance Invitational at the Armory Track & Field Center with three Leopards setting personal records. Lehigh’s Fritz Isaac broke a program record and turned in the third-best time in the Patriot League in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.21 seconds at the Villanova Invitational, as Maura Henderson continued her strong indoor season, turning in the League’s fastest time in the 5,000-meter run this season at the Armory Track Invitational.
 
Loyola Maryland also concluded their indoor regular season at The Armory, as sophomore Molly Smith set a school record in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.79.
 
Army West Point, Boston University Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy are all back in action this week in a final tune-up for the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships running from February 17-19.

M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Cameron Williams, Boston University, Sr., Sprinter, San Antonio, Texas
Williams won the 200-meter dash at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational over the weekend with an IC4A-qualifying time of 20.85, the fastest time in the Patriot League and 12th-fastest time in the nation this season. Williams also finished third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.86, the fourth fastest time in the League this season.  
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Maura Henderson, Lehigh, So., Distance, Narbeth, Pa.
Henderson broke a Lehigh program record for the second-consecutive week, this time as the top-finishing collegiate runner in the 5,000-meter run, against a talented field at the Armory Track Invitational in New York City. Henderson finished in a time of 16:52.59, nearly 22 seconds faster than the second-fastest time in the League. Her time also ranks 47th in the nation.

David Oluwadara, Boston University, Sr., Jumper, Boston, Mass.
Oluwadara broke his own school record in the triple jump, with a leap of 16.07 meters (52-8.75 feet) during Saturday’s Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational. His previous record of 16.06 meters was set last year, breaking a 31-year old program record. Oluwadara’s jump is the best in the Patriot League and seventh-best in NCAA Division I this season.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kamryn Brinson, Army West Point, Fr., Thrower, Atlanta, Ga.
Brinson took home gold in the weight throw at the Army-Navy Star Series with a distances of 17.76 meters. The throw is the best in the Patriot League this season.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE MALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Tyrell Maddox, Army West Point, Fr., Mid-Distance, Delaware Valley, Pa.
Maddox won the 500-meter run at the Army-Navy Star Series with a time of 1:04.28. His time is the fastest in the Patriot League this season. Maddox also helped the Black Knights win the 4x400 relay defeat Navy with a League-best 3:18.30 time.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Margaret Sliney, Bucknell, Fr., Distance, St. Louis, Mo.
Sliney turned in a Patriot League-best time of 57.07 in the 400-meter run in a talented field at the Meyo Invitational. She also helped the Bison set a program record in the distance medley relay (DMR) with a time of 11:27.11, the best time in the League by nearly 28 seconds and the 18th-best time in the nation.
 
HONORABLE MENTION
Luke Giugliano, Bucknell, Sr., Distance, Sparta, N.J.
Giugliano ran an IC4A-qualifying time in the 5,000-meter run at the Meyo Invitational with a time of 14:34.66. His time is the fastest in the Patriot League by nearly two seconds and the 48th-fastest time in the nation.
 
Brianna Belo, American, Jr., Mid-Distance, Philadelphia, Pa.
Belo broke a 12-year old American program record in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:11.41, good for a second place finish at the Camel City Invitational. Her time is currently the fastest in the Patriot League and qualifies her for the ECAC Championships. 
 
Toria Levy, Boston University, Sr., Weston, Fla.
Levy earned a second-place finish in the 500 meter run at Saturday’s Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational with a time of 1:11.70, which is the fastest in the League. She was also part of a 4x400 meter relay team that posted a 3:44.38 mark, also the best in the League this season.
 
Lee Bares, Army West Point, Jr., Pole Vault, Lakeville, Minn.
Bares took first place in the pole vault, reaching 5.10 meters, just .13 meters shy of breaking the Army-Navy Star Series record. Bares won the event and has the highest mark in the Patriot League this season.
 
Kaitlyn Toman, Lehigh, So., Pole Vault, Allentown, Pa.
Toman broke her own school record by one centimeter, while finishing first in the pole vault with a height of 3.65 meters at the Villanova Invitational. She has the second best vault in the League this season and the three best in Lehigh program history.
 
Emily Malone, Army West Point, Fr., Sprints, Jumper, Hazleton, Pa.
Malone won the 60-meter dash in 7.82, tied for the third best time in the League. She won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.38, the second-best mark in the League and then finished second in the high jump with a leap of 1.52 meters.
