Patriot League Announces Corvias Women’s Soccer Weekly Awards (10.9.2017)

 
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Navy and Bucknell share the top spot in League standings with a record of 5-0-0. The Mids grabbed a 1-0 victory over Boston University while the Bison picked up a 3-0 win over Army West Point last Saturday. 
 
Ash Fairow (Jr., F) led the way offensively for the Mids netting the game-winner last Saturday in the 84th minute of play. Fairow found the back of the net off a corner kick from teammate Baseley McClaskey (So., D) to put the Mids up 1-0.  The win marks Navy’s fifth straight victory in League play and eighth straight overall.
 
Bucknell bounced back from a 4-0 deficit to Princeton last Wednesday with a 3-0 victory over Army last Saturday.  Kendall Ham (Sr., F) and Brianna Kropinack (Fr., F) paced the Bison offensively, Ham scored two goals while Kropinack tallied an assist and a goal. The senior forward currently has 34 career goals and 80 career points.
 
The Colgate Raiders defeated Lafayette 4-1 with three of the four goals coming from sophomore forward Mara Cosentino.  Cosentino tallied the first three goals within a span of 22 minutes from the opening whistle and assisted teammate Lindsey Wiley (So., M/F) to have a hand in every goal.
 
Lehigh grabbed an overtime League victory against American last Saturday with a goal from Annika Jansa (So., M) off a corner kick in the 98th minute of play.

The women’s soccer weekly awards for Oct. 2 - 9 went to Mara Cosentino (Colgate), Annika Jansa (Lehigh), Baseley McClaskey (Navy), Sumer Rahe (Loyola Maryland) and Brianna Kropinack (Bucknell).

CORVIAS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MARA COSENTINO, COLGATE
So., F, Glastonbury, Conn.
Cosentino recorded seven points in last Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Lafayette. The sophomore netted three goals in the span of 22 minutes then assisted teammate Lindsey Wiley (So., M/F) in the 57th minute of play.
 
CORVIAS MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
ANNIKA JANSA, LEHIGH
So., M, Potomac, Md.
Jansa netted the overtime game-winner for the Mountains Hawks in the 1-0 decision versus American last Saturday. She corralled the ball off a corner kick and fired the ball into the lower left inside post.
 
CORVIAS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BASELEY MCCLASKEY, NAVY
So.., D, Grand Junction, Colo.
The sophomore defender helped hold a potent Boston U. offense scoreless last Saturday as well as assisting Ash Fairow (Jr., F) for the game-winner. McClaskey leads the League in assists throughout League play with eight.

SUMER RAHE, LOYOLA MARYLAND
Jr., GK, Orange, Calif.
Rahe recorded eight saves in the 0-0 draw against Holy Cross last Saturday. The junior goalkeeper made three dynamic saves in overtime to preserve the tie.
 
CORVIAS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
BRIANNA KROPINACK, BUCKNELL
Fr., F, Swansboro, N.C.
Kropinack tallied the opening goal 10 minutes into the game then assisted Kendall Ham in the 14th minute to help the Bison defeat Army 3-0 last Saturday.

HONORABLE MENTION


ASH FAIROW, NAVY Jr., F, Jacksonville, N.C.
Fairow netted her seventh game-winning goal last Saturday against Boston U. in the 85th minute of play. The junior forward headed a cross from Baseley McClaskey (So., D) off a corner kick to put the Mids up 1-0.  
 
AMANDA FAY, BOSTON U. Fr., GK, Atkinson, N.H.
Fay made a career high of six saves against the League’s top offense in the 1-0 loss against Navy last Saturday.
 
SYDNEY FORTSON, NAVY So., Claremont, Calif.
The sophomore goalkeeper recorded her fifth straight and sixth overall solo shutout of the season in the 1-0 victory over Boston U. last Saturday. She made five saves two in the first-half and three in the second-half.
 
LINDSEY WILEY, COLGATE So., M/F, Vienna, Va.
Wiley accounted for Colgate’s fourth goal of the night last Saturday against Lafayette. The goal came from a cross by Mara Cosentino (So., F) inside the six-yard box in the 57th minute in which Wiley tapped into the back of the net.
