BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Army West Point men’s cross country team captured its eighth Patriot League Cross Country Championship, while the Bucknell women’s team claimed its third-straight and 11th overall League championship on Saturday at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course at Lehigh University.
Boston University sophomore Paul Luevano won the men’s individual title and Patriot League Men’s Runner of the Year with a time of 24:01.23, finishing 15 seconds in front of the second-place competitor. Luevano was last season’s runner-up and male rookie of the year. Bucknell senior Christine Bendzinski won her second-consecutive individual championship and earned Patriot League Women’s Runner of the Year, finishing with a time of 20:52.42.
Army West Point Head Coach Mike Smith and Bucknell Head Coach Kevin Donner earned Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year, respectively. Voting for Coach of the Year honors is conducted by the League head coaches.
Army West Point freshman Daniel Mazzei was named the Patriot League Men's Rookie of the Meet, finishing 15th overall in 24:52.25. Navy freshman Emily Craig was the Patriot League Women's Rookie of the Meet, finishing 10th overall in 21:41.41.
MEN’S 8K RACE
The Black Knights claimed their eighth Patriot League Cross Country Championship - tying Navy for the most titles in League history – finishing with 43 points and four all-League finishers, including sophomore Robert Santoyo and senior Johnny Valeri on the first-team. Second-place Navy finished with 47 points to have its streak of four-consecutive team championships snapped. The Mids placed four on the all-League squads including senior Cory Donley and sophomore Kevin Murray on the first-team. Boston University claimed third-place with 79 points, behind Luevano’s first-place finish. American (88 points) edged Bucknell (94 points) for fourth-place overall. The Eagles earned three all-League selections, including senior Alaeldin Tirba on the first-team, while Bison senior William Bordash earned first-team all-League honors. Lehigh (126 points), Holy Cross (230, points), Lafayette (248 points), Colgate (257 points) and Loyola Maryland (305 points) round out the men’s championship field.
Luevano ran away from the pack to claim his first Patriot League Individual Cross Country Championship. Navy’s Donley finished second in 24:16.76, with Army West Point’s Santoyo (24:22.45) and Valeri (24:24.24 in third and fourth, respectively. Navy’s Murray (24:25.25), American’s Tirba (24:25.59) and Bucknell’s Bordash (24:26.10) round out the top-seven, making up the All-Patriot League First Team.
Navy sophomore Jake Brophy (24:26.10) finished eighth, Army West Point sophomore Roman Ollar (24:33.05) finished ninth and American junior Matthew Rainey (24:33.54) claimed the 10th spot. Lehigh sophomore Jeffrey Kirshenbaum (24:37.53) finished 11th, Army West Point sophomore Benjamin Petrella (24:42.40) crossed the finish line in 12th, Navy senior Gabriel Collison (24:42.83) earned 13th and American junior Benjamin Doiron (24:50.29) rounds out the second-team in 14th-place.

WOMEN’S 6K RACE
The Bison earned their third-straight and 11th overall Patriot League Women’s Championship, scoring 58 points, behind individual champ Bendzinski and third-place finisher junior Colleen Buckley (20:56.01). Junior Jenna Farmer (13th, 21:43.67) earned second-team honors for the Bison. Army West Point finished second with 79 points, as junior Abby Halbrook (20:55.27) paced the team in second-place along with fellow All-Patriot League First-Team finisher sophomore Bethany Nunnery (7th, 21:34.77). Navy was close behind with 88 points, as junior Ali Valenti (6th, 21:28.47) earned first-team honors and rookie of the year freshman Emily Craig (10th, 21:41.41) and sophomore Grace West (11th, 21:42.09) earned second-team.
Host Lehigh finished fourth overall with 105 points, as sophomore Maura Henderson (8th, 21:36.67) earned all-League second-team. Holy Cross finished fifth with 119 points, led by senior Hannah Jeter (5th, 21:24.76) a first-team all-League finisher and second-team honorees senior Zoe Matherne (12th, 21:42.29) and Jenna Gasparrini (14th, 21:54.46). American finished sixth, led by junior Adriana Hooks (4th, 21:20.05), who earned first-team honors. Boston University finished sixth-place with 152 points, while Loyola Maryland finished eighth-place with 240 points, led by second-team finisher senior Cordelia McGinn (9th, 21:40.12). Lafayette (241) and Colgate (288) finished ninth and 10th, respectively.
