Patriot League Announces M-F Athletic Indoor Track and Field Weekly Awards (1.31.17)
 
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Each of the Patriot League men’s and women’s indoor track & field programs were in action last week as Army West Point and Bucknell turned in strong showings against a talented field at the Penn State National Invitational in State College, Pa. on Friday and Saturday.  Boston University hosted Holy Cross and several of the nation’s best at the John Thomas Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
 
Lehigh had a busy weekend competing at the Villanova Invite on Friday, before hosting Patriot League opponents Lafayette and Loyola Maryland on Saturday at the Covert Classic in Bethlehem, Pa. American turned in a strong weekend with six Eagles achieving PR’s at the Patriot Games at George Mason University, while Navy was impressive at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational on Saturday, with 15 men recording IC4A-qualifying times. Colgate also turned in a record-breaking weekend at the Pioneer Invitational with 13 Raiders setting new personal-bests.
 
This weekend’s indoor track & field action will be highlighted by Army – Navy Star Meet, hosting by the Black Knights with live coverage on the Patriot League Network beginning at noon EST. American, Lehigh and Loyola Maryland will be competing at the Armory Collegiate Invite at The Armory in New York City. Boston University will host Colgate and Holy Cross at the Scarlet & White Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Lafayette will take part in the New Balance Invite in New York and Bucknell will compete at the Meyo Invitational and the Youngstown Invitational.

M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Ethan Homan, Boston University, Sr., Distance, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Homan finished the one-mile run in a time of 4:00.08, the fastest time in the Patriot League this season, at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University. His personal-record time is the third fastest in BU history, behind All-Americans Rich Peters (’14) and David Proctor (’08). Homan finished fifth in a competitive field that included the first, second, fifth and sixth fastest times in NCAA Division I this season.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Christine Bendzinski, Bucknell, Jr., Distance, Hebron, Conn.
Bendzinski broke Bucknell’s program record in the one-mile run with an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:45.36 at Penn State Nationals. She now holds the fastest time in the Patriot League this season by nearly five seconds and the 45th fastest time in NCAA Division I. 


M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Lucas Warning, Lehigh, Sr., Shot Put, Mertztown, Pa.
Warning finished first of 29 competitors at the John Covert Classic in the shot put with a distance of 17.99 meters. His throw is the second-best mark in the Patriot League this season behind only his own distance of 18.09 earlier this month at the Angry Birds Challenge. Warning has won the shot put at four of Lehigh’s six meets this season, while holding the six furthest distances in the League this season.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Briyah Brown, Army West Point, Jr., Thrower, New Rochelle, N.Y.
Brown placed third in the shot put in a talented field at the Penn State Nationals with a distance of 14.91 meters. Her shot put distance is only behind her own throw of 15.27 meters from the Wagner Invite in early January. 
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE MALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Matthew Kravitz, Lehigh, Fr., Distance, Moscow, Pa.
Kravitz set a personal record in the one-mile run finishing second of 18 competitors in 4:09.73 at the John Covert Classic. His time is now the sixth-fastest in the Patriot League this season. He also won the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:31.46, also the sixth-fastest time in the League this season.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Samantha Colletti, Army West Point, Fr., Distance, Weymouth, Mass.
Coletti won the 1000 meter run at the Penn State Nationals with a time of 2:56.00, her best time of the season and the seventh-best in the Patriot League.
 
HONORABLE MENTION
Jose Santana, Army West Point, Sr., Mid-Distance, Orlando, Fla.
Santana posted a season-best 48.22 in the 400-meter run to beat his previous top-ranked time in the Patriot League this season. He finished third in the race at the Penn State National in a competitive field.
 
Joseph Breen, Bucknell, Sr., Throws, Northborough, Mass.
Breen finished fifth in the shot put at the Penn State Nationals with an IC4A-qualifying toss of 55-0.75, now the third-best mark in the Patriot League.
 
Ayodele Adesanya, Boston University, Jr., Mid-Distance
Adesanya finished first among 52 collegiate competitors in the 500 meter run with a time of 1:15.01, the second-best mark in the Patriot League this season. She also helped the women’s 4x400 relay team win with a time of 3:47.42, the fastest time in the League this season.
 
Regine Cooper, Colgate, So., Throws, Fort Myers, Fla.
Cooper set a personal record in the weight throw with a distances of 15.15 meters, eighth-longest in the Patriot League this season and third-longest in Colgate history. She also threw for a distance of 11.52 meters in the shot put for the seventh-longest in program history. She now holds three of the top 10 distances in the shot put and four of the top 10 distances in the weight throw.
